Latest ethics complaints should be 'a wake-up call,' Palin says
Source: CNN

From CNN Associate Producer Martina Stewart

(CNN) – The two new ethics complaints filed against Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin in the past week should be ‘a wake-up call,’ the former Republican vice presidential candidate says.

In a statement released late Friday night, Palin’s office announced that two more ethics complaints had been filed against the governor in the week since she made her surprise announcement that she plans to step down later this month -including one complaint filed on Friday.

“Although the governor would not have thought it possible, the latest complaint rises to a new level of absurdity in alleging that she has been paid for interviews that she has given to the news media,” Palin’s chief of staff Mike Nizich said in a release announcing the filing of the recent complaints.

“It is amazing to me that anyone could think that, let alone put their name behind it and once again seek to distract state officials and needlessly increase their work load. The state is losing the value of some of its expenditures when public servants are pulled away from important assignments to deal with far-fetched and mean-spirited allegations,” added Nizich.

1. Typical. Grifters see no problem with reaching into the till when the cashier isn't looking.
She's a petty criminal and should be ignored.

4. In her own words.
Yes indeed it is a wake up call, but it's a wake up call for you sa-rah-rah. And it's a wake up call for the few of your supporters who might be able to think discerningly and say, maybe there IS something to these ethics charges.

5. Sarah and her people keep repeating this lie...
Edited on Sat Jul-11-09 01:28 PM by No Elephants
"Of the total of 19 ethics complaints that have been filed against Palin or her staff, “15 have been resolved without any finding of wrongdoing, and four are now pending,” Friday’s statement from Palin’s office also said."

I read one investigation report--the one that was published for the first time while she was running for office. It found wrongdoing. She wasn't charged or impeached, but wrongdoing was found.

So, 1 of 1 reports that I read found wrongdoing. I find it hard to believe that I read the only one out of the 15 reports hat are in that found wrongdoing. Possible, but very unlikely.

And, how come I remember that, but CNN doesn't mention it?

9. alleging that she has been paid for interviews
If true, the media needs a refund. If they paid for that rambling nonsense, they have some serious issues.

So it's win-win for them.

11. Oh suck it up, Sarah. Think Alaska is only state gov't that has to deal w complaints from public?
She wasn't concerned about frugality with state funds when she expected the state to pay her family's travel costs and per diem for her while she's living in her home since she refuses to live in the state's capital.

13. Where Did....
... the money come from to build that nice house, much less pay for the lakefront land? She was a nobody mayor of a tiny town at that time. And how did those huge windows, exactly like those on the sports center being built around the same time, end up on that house? And good 'ol boy Todd says he built the house "with a couple of buddies" in a very short amount of time..... I don't believe him, having construction experience myself. You need pros for everything: electrical, plumbing, flooring, etc. No way, Mr. First Dude. Either Alaskans are the most gullible people on earth, or the number of look-the-other-way repubs are off the chart up there.

14. She conveniently forgets one small detail
However, the timing, scope and other factors of the single largest expense appear to fit the case Palin filed against herself that cost $187,797 to investigate. That's almost two-thirds of the total $296,042 of all Personnel Board investigations in the last two years.

The self-reported complaint was a means to have a legislative investigator's findings in the "Troopergate" case reexamined by a Personnel Board investigator. She said publicly that her self-reported complaint was without merit.

How convenient.

15. give her her rights
and don't jump on the bandwagon until proof is there. It apparently IS there is some cases. But don't get into the same stuff DUers' criticize when Repubs do it. Obama has had a lot of questions raised about him, as well as about others from his state. It is too easy to find people guilty until proven innocent and I personally hate to see it done to anybody. Of course I hope this stuff actually gets investigated.

It would sure be cool if potential illegal/unethical behaviors by our government employees got the same attention and consequences as the general public.

16. 2/3 of the money spent by the state was spent on the
ethics complaint Palin filed against herself in order to control the investigation. She is a liar, a big fat scheming liar, and we are wise to her bullshit.

17. latest searches should be a "wake-up call," Gacy says...
“Although Mr. John Wayne Gacy would not have thought it possible, the latest search warrant rises to a new level of absurdity in alleging that he has the bodies of numerous young men buried under his house,” Gacy's representative said in a release announcing the execution of the recent warrants.

“It is amazing to me that anyone could think that, let alone put their name behind it and once again seek to distract state officials and needlessly increase their work load. The state is losing the value of some of its expenditures when public servants are pulled away from important assignments to deal with far-fetched and mean-spirited allegations,” added his representative, who identified himself simply as "the Son of Sam."

18. I believe one of the two charges
deals with her per diem payments she takes while spending the night in her own home. The filer of the complaint alleges that other state employees commute like Palin does and they don't get per diem payments for living in their own homes. The complaint also states that Alaska provides housing for the governor in Juneau and that if she doesn't want to live there then she should not be hitting up the tax payer for daily charges for housing expenses to live at home.
Notice her spokesperson doesn't mention that complaint. Only the one they can laugh off as ridiculous - some nonsense about being paid for interviews. He didn't say that other most recent complaint states that Palin is ripping off the state of Alaska to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars for spending the night at her own residence. In other words, taxpayer dollars pay her to NOT bother traveling to Juneau every night she spends in her own house.
Also, one of the "settled" ethics complaints resulted in Palin paying back the state of Alaska for the thousands and thousands of dollars in unauthorized and unnecessary family travel for hauling her kids around to events where they weren't invited or needed in any official capacity and presenting it as "official duties" of the first family. In one instance, she and her daughters got 4 days in a luxury suite in NYC for a one-day conference that the governor attended.
Does the spokesman think the state shouldn't have gone after the money that Palin wasted on her family? That's an ethics complaint that I'm sure many Alaskans can get behind!
