Healthcare 'still on schedule'; bill coming Tuesday
Source: The Hill

House Democrats will introduce their full healthcare reform bill Tuesday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Monday while acknowledging she has much work left to do to win over members of her own caucus.

"We’re still on schedule. We have plans to vote for this legislation before we leave for the August recess," Pelosi said at a news conference. Pelosi said, however, that the bill to be unveiled would have to undergo further changes during committee markup to garner enough support among Democrats. "It is just the beginning," she said.

"It won’t be the finished product," Pelosi said. "In order for us to be on schedule, we have to roll out legislation this week."

But even a Tuesday introduction, to be followed by possible committee action beginning before week's end, represents a slight setback to the House Democratic leadership's ambitious goal of passing a healthcare reform bill before the lower chamber departs for its summer recess on July 31.

1. WE are going to be the change WE voted for, call your reps !
As a former health care giver, I am shocked and saddened to see what has become of health care in America. $ 1. 4 million is being spent per day in DC by the health care lobbyists so your elected representative is getting taken care of and has quality health care we pay for and can't afford ourselves for our families, I know what is deemed, defended and supported in Tennessee and Virginia as quality health care and clearly profit care comes ahead of patient care. http://www.wisecountyissues.com/?p=62 MRSA ( methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureas ) is infesting our communities because filthy, uncaring hospitals and emergency rooms are breeding them and spreading them into our schools, homes, restaurants. How many more Americans' will be diseased or die while 74 % of Americans' are begging for health care reform ? More people died in America last year from MRSA complications than AIDS. When MRSA and a flu bug start mixing, it won't be pretty and we are being infected by the very health care system we depend on and trust to keep us safe and healthy.

5. What exactly are they voting on?
1. Mandate everyone carries insurance? (good for the insurance companies)
2. Mandate that all businesses except for the smallest provide health insurance, thereby insuring that we continue an employer based program that the insurance companies love?
3. a Medicare for all option? Available only if someone is not covered by employer health insurance, Tricare etc? (great for the insurance companies, they didn't want to insure these people anyway)
4. Paid for with taxes? (so we could potentially pay for a program that we will never be able to use if we are employed)

I may not be understanding this, but this is what I've understood the 'plan' to be. It's not health care reform. It's Health Crap business as usual with a little safety net for those the insurance companies don't want to cover any way. Please someone tell me I'm wrong. We need a public option that we can all take advantage of. I'd like to be free of the shackles of employer based benefits.
That's what's kept me in a soul destroying situation for years. I'm stuck because I need the benefits.

Maybe instead of worrying about staying on some schedule, they should worry about getting it right

Exactly.

The speed at which they're trying to ram this through is suspicious. Reminds me of the Patriot Act & TARP. Vote first and ask questions later generally does not bode well for us.

6. By the way
Why the HELL is the House "leadership" meeting with a few "blue-dogs" and yet they can all but ignore the Progressive Caucus - which is twice as numerous...?

Rhetorical Question...

Answer: They think they can ignore REAL Progressives since "who else are they going to have to vote for."

Our blue-dog is going down next time if she fucks this up. A REAL republican is better than a fake one!

9. I do not "get" the reaching out to those blue dogs, either-
... The majority of the House is capable of carrying this bill and so is the Senate. Exactly how many polls must show the majority of the American people support a public option and a single payer plan. Exactly how many people working 2 to 3 jobs have to loose it all to an episode of bad health, even WITH current based health insurance? Enough.

More astounding - credibility is give to Michael Moore's "Sicko" by an ex-executive of the health care insurance industry - ONCE AGAIN reminding us of what every other democracy on earth knows... WE NEED THIS.

This tells you how the health insurance and pharmaceutical lobby has them by the short hairs, doesn't it?
