Pelosi: When I take health care bill to the floor, 'it will win'
Source: CNN

We believe that we have a good bill,” Pelosi tells CNN Chief National Correspondent John King.

“This isn’t about rushing,” the leading Democrat says amid criticism from Republicans that her party is trying to rush through massive changes to a sector that makes up a sixth of the U.S. economy.

Pelosi also tells King that two of the three House committees with jurisdiction over the reform legislation have already reported out a bill. Some Democrats are taking issue with the inclusion of a public insurance option in the legislation. But, Pelosi notes, the public option has “overwhelming support” of the House Democratic Caucus as a whole.

“It’s the Speaker’s job sometimes,” King told Pelosi, “to referee disputes within the family. Are you worried your family is coming apart on this and that you might not have the votes on the floor?”

“Absolutely, positively not,” Pelosi responded. “When I take this bill to the floor, it will win.”

2. We may have a repeat performance of the Medicare Drug Bill vote (in reverse)
Only this time it could be our people holding the vote open all night and using heavy handed tactics behind closed doors.

4. “This isn’t about rushing”
Bull. I've heard Obama say over and over that it's "this year or never," and there was a big rush to complete this before the August deadline.

I want health care reform too, but I want it done right. Rushed bills are always bad bills, and from what I've read on this bill, it's a bad one. What's really scary is the number of lawmakers who won't even read it before voting on it.

6. It does not faze (as opposed to "phase") me in the slightest because
I'm not as pessimistic as you are. I believe something will get done. I just don't want a rushed piece of crap, and what is circulating now is a rushed piece of crap.

Regardless of your pessimism, I think it should be obvious to everyone - right, left, center, Obama lover, Obama hater, America hater, even Cowboys fans - that Pelosi's "this isn't about rushing" is a blatant lie. All of Obama's recent speeches, his repeated "it's this year or never," the clamoring to beat the August deadline, and so on, betray Pelosi's bullshit words as a lie. Rushing the bill has been first and foremost in the minds of all of its supporters on Capitol Hill.

8. That damned engineering degree
Yes, I guess it is faze. Well, I am pessimistic on this topic even though I'm almost stupid optimistic normally. After 40+ years on this planet and seeing how things almost can't ever get done any more with Party of No Republican ass holes, right-wing media and spineless Dems who are susceptible to the BS ads put out by the anti-healthcare hate groups, yes, I am very cynical that anything will get done.

16. IMO, a bad bill will be worse for the country and reform at some point than no bill.
Edited on Sun Jul-26-09 11:13 AM by No Elephants
I fear we are headed for a bad bill. though, killing real reform, yet costing a ton of money anyway, with insurance companies and hospitals benefiting.

7. A better name for this bill would be:
"Health Insurance Industry Profit Protection Bill"

The 72% of all Americans in favor of a Public Option are going to be sadly disappointed in the piece of shit the "Democratic" Congress is serving up.

According to the CBO which scored HR3200 last week, LESS than 10 Million Americans will be enrolled in the Public Option by 2019.

9. Another good point.
I truly think Obama wants to pass whatever ineffective crap he can slip past the goalie just to claim he did SOMETHING. Give me a real bill that takes time but actually helps a lot of people instead of ineffective, rushed bullshit just for show.

20. Only 2745 posts for the screen name JanusAscending since July 2005. And that's one of them.
I wonder why it is that so many posts like that come from screen names who have been here for years, but, on the surface, seem to post here only rarely. And those posts are usually near the beginning of the thread, too. Hmmm. What could possibly explain that?

26. Against McCain? Please.
I'm surprised the margin of victory wasn't greater. Sometimes the reaches in logic by people here amaze me. I'd ask where you came up with that one, but asking would imply actual interest in the answer.

As for what he's doing with health care, however, I have a big problem with "It's this year or never," the rush to beat the August deadline, and so on. It reminds me of the absolute urgency to pass a "stimulus" IMMEDIATELY, even though the bill was so poorly crafted that within a few weeks Biden admitted they misread everything and that a second "stimulus" is now being discussed. Rushed bills are NEVER good bills.

I want something done too - but not rushed crap, which seems to be Obama's focus.

appears that he cannot get this done, even though Dems theoretically have bullet-proof control of both houses of Congress, he will not get re-elected, IMO. (The pretense that we have 60 Senators is a bane, IMO).

It may have been better, IMO, if he had started by saying he would get it done, but he would rather no bill than a bad bill.

As my former boss used to say, only half kiddingly, "When all else fails, tell the truth.

11. Bullsh*t...
We've watched the same thing happen time after time. Any piece of legislation that could actually help the average American citizen either fails to make it for a vote, gets voted down, or gets watered down by special interests to the point that it causes more harm than good.

It all comes down to the special interests and lobbyists. Until we can get that money away from our "representatives," they will continue crafting legislation that caters to the wealthiest 1%, no matter how many phone calls We the People make.

Of course, if we tied a single-payer plan to another war-spending-supplemental bill, it'd pass without delay.

:sarcasm:

Dont you know thatall that matters is that we get something passed that has healthcare in the title.
It doesnt matter what it does or if it really meets the needs of the people.

the right direction. So far, not so much.

25. Not really the biggest Pelosi fan
but she's not the one really holding things up. She got the House to pass a bill and while it was not single payer, it's about as much as we could expect.

Reid on the other hand, is worthless and can't seem to hold Dem senators in line on much of anything (the recent F-22 bill being an exception).
