Win for Dems as panel passes health bill
Source: Politico

Democrats moved one step closer to their long-sought goal of providing health care to millions of uninsured Americans on Friday after their bill cleared a critical House committee.

The House Energy and Commerce Committee approved the legislation, 31-28, on Friday after liberals and conservatives on the panel broke a two-week deadlock that threatened President Barack Obama’s top domestic priority and reached a loose accord that allowed Chairman Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) to move the bill out of his committee. Five Democrats voted against the bill, and no Republicans supported it.

...snip...

The legislation would require all Americans to secure health care and sets aside subsidies to help lower- and middle-income households do so. The bill also establishes insurance exchanges and creates a system of government-sponsored coverage to help lower the price of insurance. And it dramatically revamps laws that govern the insurance, medical and pharmaceutical industries.

Blue Dog Democrats on the committee, who are the linchpin in the House health care debate, agreed to allow their liberal colleagues to cut billions from existing government-funded health care programs in order to restore some $50 billion to $65 billion in subsidies set aside in the bill to help middle-income families purchase coverage. In a separate side deal, Speaker Nancy Pelosi has promised the liberal wing of her caucus a vote on a single-payer, government run health system, according to a Democratic aide.

Mandatory insurance.

"and sets aside subsidies to help lower- and middle-income households do so."
Mandatory insurance paid for by taxpayers who already have to pay their own mandatory insurance.
but we can't afford single payer..oh, NOOOOOOOOOO, just can't.

Who are the 5 Dem fuckers who voted against this?????????????!!!!!

6. This is what really pisses me off
They don't want to offer single payer OR a government option, because people would have to pay taxes for it.

BUT:

It's perfectly fine to FORCE people to pay premiums to private insurers?

:wtf:

Seriously, if I HAVE to pay it, how the hell is it NOT a tax?!!

12. Not just a tax but one without representation
Unless you consider the Insurance Lobby as your Representation... If the money went to our Government it would be one thing but when they force us to give our money to a Private Company it goes against everything America fought for to establish this country.

10. This is just ONE version out 5 versions between the House and Senate
Amazing how DUers go into concern mode with the assumption that this is the final version and that's that.

They are supposed to reconcile the 3 House bills during August, which is when things may change when the heat from the Progressive Tri-Caucus ratchets up. Then they have to reconcile with the Senate (whenever they get done reconciling their 2 bills), and THEN we will see what the final version looks like - and that will be months away.
