N.Korea 'helping Myanmar build nuclear plant': report
Source: AFP

SYDNEY — North Korea is helping Myanmar build a secret nuclear reactor and plutonium extraction plant to build an atomic bomb within five years, a report said on Saturday, citing the evidence of defectors.

The nuclear complex is hidden inside a mountain at Naung Laing, in Myanmar's north, and runs parallel to a civil reactor being built at another site by Russia, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

The revelations come just weeks after US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton voiced concerns that Pyongyang was transferring weapons and nuclear technology to fellow pariah state Myanmar.

"In the event that the testimony of the defectors is proved, the alleged secret reactor could be capable of being operational and producing one bomb a year, every year, after 2014," Ball wrote in the newspaper.

If it wasn't for Bush's stupid policies, this wouldn't even be an issue now.

2. Yeah your right, Bush should have bombed the snot out
of North Korea instead of attempting negotiation, heck, even invaded so that North Korea woudnt be able to do this...

But dont worry, this nuke plant in Burma is only for "peaceful purposes"

4. Because if we did that China wouldn't do anything right?
Why else do you think we invaded Afghanistan and Iraq but never even threatened to invade North Korea. In case you forget, we tried that in the 1950's. It didn't work because of an up-and-coming superpower, China. Clearly now would be different. :eyes:

5. I didnt think I had to put the "sarcasm" tag after my post...

But I guess I should have. My point is I dont think Bush and Clinton before him had much to
work with in dealing with NK. Remember that Clinton AND Bush both thought they had come up with a negotiated deal with NK only to have NK renege. (surprise, surprise). So I think that blaming Bush for this development is kinda idiotic.

9. Can you explain to me the differences between
Obamas policies towards North Korea, Bush's, and Clinton's?

The only difference I can recall is Bush called them "The Axis of Evil"

Anything else?

Guess not...So I guess "idiotic" cuts both ways

7. I think it is more a matter of 'who they don't want to go to war with'
Edited on Sat Aug-01-09 09:08 PM by Alamuti Lotus
They see that Iraq was starved, bombed, strangled and kept unable to defend itself; easy target for imperialist aggression, and its people have been shredded in the process. DPRK arms itself to the teeth, including nuclear weapons and missile delivery systems (that may or may not actually work), and the aggressors talk their big talk from a safe distance. That perhaps unfortunate lesson has not been lost upon many in the world who would like to keep Big Brother out of their affairs (for better or worse).

14. I wonder what is finally going to bring these guys down
North Korea is a perverse fantasy land, it can't be sustained forever.

I think at some point China is going to be willing to trade North Korea for some other concession and then it's just a matter of time.

Of course the longer we wait the more damage they'll do when they finally collapse.
