Liberal groups launch town hall counteroffensive

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Liberal groups are sending supporters detailed instructions on strategies to counter what they call organized disruptions of congressional town halls — events that have become new front lines in the fight over health-care reform.

Conservative groups critical of Democrats’ overhaul proposals headed into the August recess with their own battle plans for the events, sending out information such as links to search engines; lists that relayed the locations of upcoming town halls; confrontational questions to ask members of Congress; and chants and slogans to use in and around the venues.

The increasingly tense face-offs have grabbed headlines, and national Democrats have spent the week highlighting reports of everything from rowdy crowds to physical assaults and death threats directed at lawmakers who are current or prospective backers of the president’s plan.

Over the past few days, groups including Health Care for America Now; the AFL-CIO, which is describing the town halls as the “principal battleground” in the health-care fight; and Organizing for America, the president’s campaign arm at the Democratic National Committee, have sent supporters logistical tips for dealing with any hostile conservative presence at the town halls, and for organizing lobbying efforts to neutralize their impact.

I thought it was just people who were tired of the Obstructionist bullshit being tossed around, not necessarily an organized "Liberal" movement ...

Sadly our establishment media only know how to report news pieces through their liberals vs. everyone else lens even when the majority of people are in the so called "liberal" camp, as they are on health care reform. They've done the same thing on the torture issue. In MSM land restoring the rule of law and holding torturers accountable is a "liberal" issue even when there are conservatives and moderates who have also called for accountability on torture.

For an "in your face" approach.

thousands of people are denied health care because they can't afford it. thousands more are losing their health care. Finally we have a president who GIVES A CRAP and a movement that anyone with half a mind would get behind.

I'm not down with sinking to their level by adding to the violence. (I refuse to let them take me to THEIR level) but the truth needs to get out. Thanks for providing that list.

How many times do they send the most mousy person to sob, "I want my Amerikkka back. I'm afraid!" Who is their brain washer? I have heard this comment several times and I think it is a plant.

Not since last November, since I don't have many conservative friends. It was very common before that, though, and after that--"that" being the election--I heard a fair number of acquaintances say it was good to have "their America" back.

Never occurred to me to ask, "Who is their brain washer?" or to think that they were plants. Well, one or two of the grad students are borderline vegetables, but that's a different matter.
