Republicans react to jobless report (slam Obama for taking "victory lap")
Source: CNN

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Just 20 minutes after the release of July's unemployment report, The Republican National Committe released a statement slamming President Obama for taking a "victory lap" over some better-than-expected economic indicators:

"While President Obama was taking a victory lap to celebrate the economy's performance, more Americans lost their jobs and the budget deficit soared to a record $1.3 trillion in July. In the month of July alone 247,000 Americans lost their jobs, which means more than 2.8 million Americans have lost their jobs since the president took office," said RNC Chairman Michael Steele in an e-mail. "The president said his stimulus bill would keep unemployment from rising higher than 8 percent. It hasn't. Now he expects Americans to believe his trillion-dollar health care experiment will improve their health care? It won't. America simply can't afford more of the president's costly experiments."

Twelve minutes later, House Minority Leader John Boehner of Ohio, reacting to the jobless numbers, criticized Democrats for what he called their "job-killing agenda":

"Today's unemployment report is yet another reminder that more spending, taxing, and borrowing does not mean more jobs for the American people. Instead of rewriting history on their 'stimulus' promises, Washington Democrats should abandon their job-killing agenda," said Boehner in a release. "Rather than pushing an increasingly unpopular government takeover of health care that will increase costs, drive up the deficit, raise taxes, and destroy jobs, Democratic leaders would be well-served to work with Republicans on real reforms that expand Americans' access to affordable health care and help small businesses create more jobs."

3. They would slam Obama no matter what he did
You know it and I know it; the only thing the Republicans do when Democrats are in power is try to run the Democrats out of power, and when the Republicans are in power they work very hard to enrich their rich contributors.

4. I think they've forgotton that in 8 years under G.W., only 375,000 jobs/yr. were created.
Under Bush we lost 2.8 million jobs in 2008 alone.

7. Unemployment rate drops
Edited on Fri Aug-07-09 10:54 AM by LynnTheDem
Unemployment rate drops to 9.4 percent in July
Nation's economy also shed fewer jobs than expected

WASHINGTON - Employers throttled back on layoffs in July, cutting just 247,000 jobs, the fewest in a year and the unemployment rate dipped to 9.4 percent. It was a better than expected showing that offered a strong signal that the recession is finally ending.

The Labor Department's report was better than many analysts were expecting. They were forecasting job losses to slow to around 320,000 and the unemployment rate to tick up to 9.6 percent, from 9.5 percent in June.

8. fuck them.
there's nothing wrong with being excited about positive news. excitement is contagious, so is depression. it's definately in the nation's best interest to keep thinking positive.

10. republicans are not interested in what is in the nation's best interest.
They are willing to hold the whole nation hostage to their hatred for Obama and Democrats. They are desperate for him, and us, to fail.

republicans represent, to me, the greatest danger facing America today. bin Laden? Who's he?

16. They're also the most.......
negative, depressing people I know. They have so much repressed anger or repressed sexuality that they all look constipated and hateful. Well, they can just eat sh** and die as far as I'm concerned. We've had a lot of good news lately, and I for one am going to remain upbeat (even if I don't have a job yet).

9. I'm just afraid they will...
do what they did to President Clinton. It was nothing but a witchhunt to get him out of office, plain and simple. Repugs hate it will all their being when Democrats are in power and will stop at nothing. We all know that most all past presidents have been involved in some kind of affair. They just chose to make Bill the scapegoat.

Let's just hope that Obama past (or present) is squeaky clean.
