Obama signs 'cash-for-clunkers' extension into law
Source: AP

By Ken Thomas –

It's official: Car shoppers are getting more time to trade in their clunkers for cash.

President Barack Obama signed into law Friday morning an extension of the stimulus program that proved so popular it ran out of money.

The Senate voted Thursday to triple the "cash-for-clunkers" fund to $3 billion and extend the program to Labor Day, assuming the new money lasts that long. The law gives owners $3,500 to $4,500 for trading in old cars that use a lot of gas for newer, more efficient vehicles.

4. Thank you OOR PRESIDENT!! This is the start of fuel efficiency & environmental conservativism.
I love this. This is how it will begin. Then we should think about recycling the old clunkers instead of raping the earth of new material. We take the old stuff and recycle it and make the newer modeled cars.

8. Think about it? They've been recycling cars for years!
Ever drive down the freeway and see trucks full of crushed cars? Those are going to a steel plant to be turned into new steel--almost all steel has recycled steel in it. They call steel the "recycled metal" because it's very hard to make new steel without putting old steel in it

6. what a great program!
It helps get those gas guzzlers off the road, not to mention provides people with money to buy newer, more environmentally friendly cars, which happens ot help out GM and the other car makers and suppliers. I hope this is just the beginning! :bounce:

7. If they've got money to fund the BS war in Iraq...
...they've got money for this.

All of the caterwauling coming from the right over this program has been ridiculous.

9. Cars Cars Cars!
I love Obama when he does things right. This is the first time where I think I can truly say, he is a genius president. He is solving the problem of America's oil shortage. And when these cars get on the road, our oil usage will go down, and with it, our inflation problem and our deficit.

Believe me. Because it will happen. The Chevy Volt is an big oil killer. It gets 250 mpg. That's 1/10 of the oil that my car uses. I pay $50 per week for gas. When this baby comes to market, I'll be spending $5. How much do you spend? I bet it's a lot too. It's the same car that was shown in Transformers - the Chevy Volt. It's a beatiful car.

It's alot more beautiful than the ugly prius. Compare for yourself in the prius video.

Good ol American ingenuity will win.
