EXCLUSIVE: FBI Attempts to Block Edmonds Testimony in OH Election Case; Attorneys Say Effort Insufficient to Stop Her
Whistleblower org says FBI/DoJ attempting 'censorship', trying to 'silence whistleblower' answering 'lawful subpoena'
Letters from FBI, Edmonds attorney posted...

The BRAD BLOG has obtained both the FBI's response to FBI translator-turned-whistleblower Sibel Edmonds' notice of her intention to give a deposition this Saturday in response to a subpoena she received in a case before the Ohio Elections Commission (OEC). We've also been given exclusive access to her attorneys' response in turn which is to be officially released later this afternoon.

The FBI stated their objection to Edmonds' plans to testify in a two-page letter on Thursday, sent to Edmonds' attorney Stephen Kohn, at the National Whistleblowers Legal Defense & Education Fund. Edmonds and her attorneys, however, in their own two-page letter say the objections raised so far by the agency are not sufficient to block Edmonds' from "truthfully answer questions while under oath pursuant to a lawful subpoena" on Saturday morning in D.C. as scheduled.

Their press release, posted by The BRAD BLOG, to be issued publicly later today, accuses the FBI and DoJ of attempting "censorship" and trying to "silence whistleblower".

As we reported in detail on Wednesday, Edmonds' attorneys had notified the Department of Justice earlier this week, in a hand-delivered letter of declaration that she intended to testify in the pending Schmidt v. Krikorian case, about the information she has concerning infiltration of the U.S. Government by agents of Turkey. She informed the DoJ of her intentions to move forward, unless the DoJ re-invoked the "state secrets" claim that the Bush Administration had twice used to gag any public testimony, her own whistleblower suit, and all other disclosures in regard to information she was privy to during her employ as a linguistics specialist with the FBI following 9/11. So far, the DoJ has not done so.

As of this afternoon, Edmonds tells The BRAD BLOG she still "absolutely" plans to testify...

Awesome. Just awesome. At worst they should close the courtroom to observers if the info is sensitive, but no info should be so sensitive that its not subject to review.

PERIOD.

Good for her, I hope her bravery is remembered. I certainly will remember her example.

36. EXCLUSIVE UPDATE: DoJ Pressures Ohio Election Commission to Block Edmonds Testimony
Source: BRAD BLOG

EXCLUSIVE UPDATE: DoJ Pressures Ohio Election Commission to Block Edmonds Testimony
Long-gagged FBI whistleblower re-iterates request for citizen media in D.C. to show up at Saturday morning deposition...

The DoJ is now jumping into action, at least on behalf of covering the FBI's rear, if not yet to issue any "states secrets" claims to stop the scheduled testimony of FBI whistleblower Sibel Edmonds in D.C. tomorrow morning in the Ohio Election Commission (OEC) case of Schmidt v. Krikorian.

Tonight Arthur Goldberg of the DoJ's civil division, sent a letter to the OEC's Executive Director Philip C. Richter, and Richter has replied. Both letters are downloadable below, and the text is posted there as well.

Moreover, In a brief conversation with Edmonds moments ago, she re-iterated her belief that the "MSM will be a no-show tomorrow", and therefore says "citizen journalists are needed" to cover what may happen at the deposition. Both she and Krikorian, as well as attorneys from all sides, will be available to answer questions from media --- both corporate and citizen --- before and after the scheduled deposition tomorrow. It is slated to begin at 10:30am Saturday morning (8/8/09) at the National Whistleblowers Center, 3238 P St. NW, in Washington D.C..

67. Question: Will Sib be testifying to the general pattern & practice of Turkish (and other) foreign
powers bribing (owning) American politicians and officials, particularly those named within the GOP of the neo-conservative stripe?

Did Sibel also hear something about foreign efforts to influence (interfere with) the outcome of American elections?

Are these the sort of questions she will (hopefully) answer today?

as Justice Sotomayor being sworn in. That can also bring many more meanings as well that have not yet been discussed, perhaps there is some connection here. Time will tell, I hope there will be enough empathy for the media to hear both events now unfolding even on a weekend.

102. Perhaps congress in recess with townhalls going on now is an opportunity...
Not only to attend them to fend off the right wing crazees, but perhaps if we get some good information and pressing questions from today's testimony, we can ask them directly to our congressmen these coming days in addition to our questions on health care, to help elevate the importance of this to congress, and also to get this issue more visibility, when a lot of these town halls will probably have much higher than average attendance. I'm going to try and go to David Wu's town hall this coming week in Portland.

87. NO THAT WAS A CAMPAIGN PROMISE
Once the campaigns have been fought, it is business as usual. We have to stop this vicious cycle. Too bad America has proven to be a failed experiment. It would be great if we could now try a new experiment centered around truth, liberty and (flesh and blood) people. People like Sibel Edmond's should be honored for the heroes they are.
P.S. it is so nice to be back on line at DU, I could not afford my ISP, I am back for now!

So much for shutting down and exposing the criminal enterprise within our government. I hope their efforts are not enough to stop Ms. Edmonds from testifying. It is time. K&R

62. Since when was it NOT the DOJ's job to cover for the FBI? Holder will be following in
a long tradition of corporate lackey AG's if he blocks her testimony.

This begs the question: why is it that our government is more interested in protecting the possible malfeasance of those within its ranks, than revealing the truth so we can clean up the mess?

Sometimes I think the "government-is-all-bad" types are more correct than wrong.

If it's about Turkey, then that's totally screwed up too. No relationship with a foreign government is worth the loss of honest governance at home.

Can't wait to see the outcome of all this. My money's on DOJ blocking testimony.

65. Eric Holder is a bad American. A coward who is undermining
the rule of law. I want him out. He's a weasel, he's wrong about everything, and he should just return to defending industrial terrorists, his former job.
I've seen nothing come out of his DOJ that I admire. He is not like Gonzo so much as he is like Ashcroft.
I have no respect for him at all. Zero. And I do not trust him to defend the Constitution, not at all. He needs to go home and let a grown up with no marionette strings have the job.

Obama has the right to replace them all -- however, it's usually done gradually.

Obama asked them all to stay. 51 accepted.

It's likely a sign that the case didn't get shut down, or that Sibel's testimony was totally disallowed, or she might have already been out now making statements. Patience. And the longer we wait, perhaps that means that they've covered more ground, and might even have asked her questions beyond the immediate concerns of just the Turkish bribes that would have been asked, but other parts of perhaps what's been covered up about Turkish government malfeasance, etc. that might get the ball rolling with other investigations. I think (I hope!) we might be pleasantly surprised with this!

100. This should be public record and open to the media.
"While the deposition will not be open to the media, as the National Whistleblower Center had originally announced, attorneys from all parties, as well as Edmonds and Krikorian, intend to be available both before and immediately following the deposition on Saturday to take any questions from media."

How can the American People do a responsible job in electing their political leaders when critical information to the public interest regarding their record is hidden from view!? I imagine if Benedict Arnold had committed treason today, it would be classified and kept from the American People; and an ignorant public would only serve to further empower more Benedict Arnolds.

Thanks for the thread BradBlog.

104. Turkey schmurky. It's gov propaganda. It was GOP supporters that set up Ohio for Bush
And they've already testified to the government in a court case. There are also misc articles, videos, and books available written by them. They are extremely sorry they did it now. But, too late. They probably haven't been invited to speak on national television or are afraid they will suddenly appear as "suicides". Wake up America. Your government has been lying to you for literally centuries now, on many different fronts. Problem is. They can't stop the flood of info now. A person can sit almost anywhere with his laptop initially and "spill the beans" before planning his next step to prove credibility. I love it. It's way overdue. The government was set up to, and is supposed to be working for US. I've given Obama the benefit of the doubt so far, as he cannot implement most changes by himself. And I must say, he's done a lot of good things already. But time will tell if he's just another easily bought, blowhard politician in the end. I truly hope he doesn't give up or give in now. It just may be he's playing big pharma's game and figures even if he does not openly state that he insists their prices come down through negotiations, that they will come down on their own due to the competition. Obama's no dummy and it seems he's probably a terrific chess player.

DoJ still a no-show, so the questioning has proceeded, and Edmonds has been able to say "everything that she hasn't been able to say so far, implicating many members of Congress in a criminal conspiracy," according to interviews with Fein and others.

Calling on youtubers soon perhaps!

9:41am PT (12:41pm ET): Another break...Edmonds still being questioned under direct. Fein believes his questioning cross-examination will last an hour or so once he begins. They will not be breaking for lunch. DoJ/FBI still did not show up.

The deposition is being videotaped and Edmonds hopes that it can be released as soon as possible after the deposition, though there has been some objections about releasing the video tape...

122. I found her testimony on Brewster Jennings (Valerie Plame's cover co.) fascinating!
From bradblog:

Second, I asked about the "real" story on Brewster Jennings, as opposed to the "crap...from the media" as she mentioned at the venue.

"Basically," she said, "I told them how (third-ranking State Dept. official in the Bush Admin and former Ambassador to Turkey) Marc Grossman disclosed" that Brewster Jennings was a CIA front company to the target of an FBI investigation. "And it was under oath and that some lives may have been lost."

"Novak has nothing to do with it. Wilson has nothing to do with it. Valerie Plame has nothing to do with it. The whole operation has to do with something totally different and it had to do with the American Turkish Council and the Turkish clients who were about to hire Brewster Jennings as an analyst ... and Grossman found out about it, and tipped off his diplomatic contact who was a target of the FBI counter-intelligence, and that person notified the ISI (Pakistani intelligence agency), etc."

She says that Brewster Jenning was then "dismantled as soon as the FBI notified the CIA," after which "FBI requested CIA to do a damage assessment, to see if lives would be lost."

All of this, she re-iterated, was "long before, three years before," Novak outed Valerie Plame as a CIA operative in his newspaper column.

Brewster Jennings was "absolutely" dismantled in August of 2001.

"Grossman and (Richard) Armitage, they are the only two people involved. Later on Cheney and his people may have used it, but it had nothing to do with those other things, (Brewster Jennings) was completely destroyed and gone by the summer of 2001."

For those not fully up on Edmonds' story, her job at the FBI was to listen to wiretaps in the counter-intel department, to translate foreign targets caught on those taps. Presumably, that's where her details on the destruction of Brewster Jennings comes from. She was hired by the agency shortly after 9/11.

Bombshell enough for ya? Let's see if anyone in the corporate media bothers to agree, and/or pick up on this --- now that it's officially "on the record" and, as Edmonds took pains to point out: under oath!
