Mexico favours Brazil trade pact
Source: bbc

Mexico's President Felipe Calderon has said he will propose a free trade agreement with Brazil.

"Trade enriches economies," said Mr Calderon during a meeting of business leaders in Sao Paulo.

The comments came as he embarked on a three day visit to Brazil, when he will meet President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and visit oil firm Petrobras.

Brazil and Mexico are Latin America's largest economies. Mexico already has trade deals with the US and Canada.

After US Agreement Colombia Wants Military Rapprochement to Brazil
Written by Newsroom
Saturday, 15 August 2009

Brazil and other South American countries are being welcomed by Colombia to increase military ties with that country. That's what Colombians President Alvaro Uribe made clear on Friday, August 14, after the Foreign Affairs ministry announced it had completed talks with Washington on allowing US troops to use seven Colombian military bases.

We would like the accord with the United States to be projected throughout the continent," Uribe told a business conference in the city of Medellin.

--------------------------

Last summer, Brazil's Lula da Silva led the effort that formalized South America's new "common market"--UNASUR--and also proposed a "common defense." He has been working closely with South America's overwhelmingly leftist leadership to accomplish these and other goals, including a unified campaign for social justice and a unified defense of the sovereignty of Latin American countries. Colombia joined UNASUR but has been obstructive of the "common defense." Uribe now appears to be appealing to the rightwing forces in Brazil (who are well-funded by the USAID-NED, John McCain's US taxpayer-funded "International Republican Institute" and other US tax dollars), who are gearing up for the next election (Lulu is termed out, I believe). The idea is to split off Brazil from its strong alliances with other leftist leaders, and get it join the corrupt, war profiteer bandwagon, so that (implied) Brazil ends up on the winning side when the US/Colombia goes after Venezuela's and Ecuador's oil.

The job of Mexico's rightwing president Calderon, here, is likely to add "free trade" boons to this enticement package to the rightwing in Brazil. It's all coming from Washington DC--both Uribe's appeal to Brazil to join with the narcothugs running Colombia in US taxpayer-funded Murder Inc. ($6 BILLION in US military aid--not counting the seven new US military bases--in a country with one of the worst human rights record on earth), and Calderon's appeal for unilateral trade agreements, outside the framework of UNASUR. Both are "divide and conquer" missiles, to entice Brazil over to the Dark Side in Latin America's struggle for social justice and democracy.

The US will answer all your problems, Uribe and Calderon are saying on Washington's behalf. The US will arm you against the poor majority, and make you rich beyond your wildest dreams--in filthy military contracts, smashing of trade unions, open-season on the murder of leftists, "free trade" for the big drug lords (not the little peasant coca leaf farmers), rampant exploitation of the Amazon, and rakings off the top for you in all manner of global corporate predator enterprise.

Just abandon unity with the target countries, and give up UNASUR's goals.

I was wondering about Calderon's sudden interest in trade with Brazil. It coincides with--same day--Uribe's odd interest in having Brazil as a co-partner in narco-fascist thuggery, funded by the US. Brazil has been going in the opposite direction, on both fronts--toward unity with leftist leaders, against US militarism. And this is a Washington-designed coordinated attack on Lulu, in collusion with fascist forces in Brazil--with Uribe and Calderon as the front men.

2. I don't think Calderon is part of the Uribe poop he is making in south America
most likely Calderon is acting on the American people's rejection of Mexico, the left is rejecting all the commercial treaties with Mexico making it much of a bigger deal than the outsourcing of the manufacturing sectors to China.

The Right on the other hand has promoted hate against all people that looks like Mexican including some native Americans. Both sides of the political spectrum have neglected the issue of immigrants human rights.

I see that Calderon has no other choice than to look for new horizons.
