(Former Senator Ne-R) Hagel warns of U.S. 'drift' in Afghanistan

Washington � The United States needs to figure out what it's doing in Afghanistan, former Nebraska Sen. Chuck Hagel said Sunday.

�I fear that we could find ourselves bogged down, drifting dangerously deeper and deeper into a situation where it then becomes very difficult to get out and we become isolated,� Hagel said on CBS' Face The Nation.

Hagel warned of the danger of U.S. troops being perceived as an occupying force in Afghanistan.

�If the people turn and we can't get the people back, it won't make any difference whether we put 200,000 troops in,� Hagel said. �That was a difficult lesson in Vietnam.�
