Minister warned over 'UK Roswell'
Source: BBC

A former head of the military told the defence secretary that a UFO sighting dubbed Britain's Roswell could be a "banana skin", official files show.

In 1985 Lord Hill-Norton wrote to Michael Heseltine about the "Rendlesham incident" in 1980, when US airmen in Suffolk thought they saw an alien ship.

Either a craft entered UK airspace with "impunity" or US airmen were capable of a "serious misperception", he wrote.

It is among the latest MoD files on UFOs released by the National Archives.

The "Rendlesham incident" involved American airmen from RAF Woodbridge who reported seeing mysterious lights.

In 2003, ex-US security policeman Kevin Conde admitted that he and another airman had shone patrol car lights through the trees and made noises on the loudspeaker as a prank.

3. Britain's Roswell in detail
This is a very interesting event that happened in a forest
between an American air force base and a British air force
base. The whole forest was bulldozed after the incident. You
can read about it in detail in the book "Left at East
Gate" by Larry Warren and Peter Robbins.

5. Pretty amazing that the whole British Army could not tell the difference
between lights being shown in the forest and a metallic object that moved in an erratic manner. Boy Howdy should the British Army be embarrassed at their Intelligence capacity..They be one dumb Army...that's for sure.

6. One minor caveat -

the Rendlesham sighting occurred in a forested area just outside an air force base and it was US Air Force personnel that reported the sighting. US forces were co-located with the RAF if I remember correctly.

7. Yawn
So somebody saw something that they couldn't identify, and people automatically assume that it was an extraterrestrial craft from thousands of light-years away.

I believe in UFOs - key word being unidentified. I do not believe that there are extraterrestrial beings visiting our planet. Despite decades of claims, NOBODY has been able to come up with a single shred of verifiable evidence. Just because we can't identify what we saw, doesn't mean we should make the leap to the bizarre or supernatural.
