White House says it did send unwanted e-mails

Source: Associated Press

After insisting no one was receiving unsolicited e-mails from the White House, officials reversed their story Monday night and blamed outside political groups for the unwanted messages from the tech-savvy operation.

White House online director Macon Phillips said in a blog posting that independent groups — he didn't name them — had signed up their members to receive regular White House updates about Obama's projects, priorities and speeches.

The White House had consistently denied that anyone who hadn't sought the e-mails had received them.

10. I don't see how sending out emails is that big of a deal

I do think denying it over and over and then saying "Oops, we did do it" makes whoever is responsible for those things look incompetent. And image and reputation are very important.

13. I'm not so sure - if openness and transpartency is a big deal, then

getting the story right and coming clean, about everything, is a big deal. Otherwise the next tinme you run, your word ain't shit.

I'm old enough to remember Watergate and young enough to recall Clinton-Lewinsky - it's never the 1st action, but always the aftermath. Tell the whole truth early and often and you'll get through almost anything.

Plus, I get a lot more crap from sources that have a lot less to say.

Someone needs a new hobby, like say, investigating where the millions from Saddam's palaces went.
