Obama: GOP conspiracy out to kill health reform
Source: Washington Times

President Obama took to the conservative airwaves Thursday to charge that Republican leaders are engaged in a vast right-wing conspiracy to kill health care reform in order to repeat the 1994 mid-term takeover of Congress, which followed the defeat of President Clinton's reform plan.

"I think early on, a decision was made by the Republican leadership that said, 'Look, let's not give him a victory, maybe we can have a replay of 1993, '94, when Clinton came in, he failed on health care and then we won in the mid-term elections and we got the majority. And I think there are some folks who are taking a page out that playbook," the president said.

Appearing on the Michael Smerconish radio show, Mr. Obama said he would "love to have more Republicans engaged and involved in this process," but he vowed to win the battle, with or without support from the minority party in Congress.

"I guarantee you, Joe, we are going to get health care reform done," he said to one caller. "I know there are a lot of people out there who've been handwringing, and folks in the press are following every little twist and turn of the legislative process, but having a big bill like this is always messy."

2. DId he actually use the word "conspiracy"?
Accusing someone of being a conspiracy theorist is a way of diminishing the seriousness of their argument.

where he says that there will assuredly be a substantive, robust public option.

4. I am one who never made fun of Hillary Clinton for her "vast RW conspiracy" comment
and, in fact, was mightily disillusioned by those who didn't "get" it.
If anything, that comment understated the extent and influence of the RW conspiracy.

17. Yes! If this hasn't been a conspiracy...
If this hasn't been a conspiracy then I don't know what the hell a conspiracy is.

They absolutely lined up shoulder to shoulder to try to block this thing. They did it for partisan reasons, and they are once again working against their own best interests, as well as ours. The sad fact is that the Senate is so goddamn corrupted with corporate money they may succeed.

26. Conspiracy?
I quite agree that the far right conspired to kill reform. But the silence on the part of Democrats did more harm than anything those loud mouths ever did.

So few Dems showed up at the public hearings, or wrote LTTE, or posted on web forums. This is how the far right manufactured its seeming consensus.

The Dem party platform in August made reform its priority 1. Since the Blue Mutts signed on to it they are obligated to approve reform, now. If they fail to do so then they are no better than the Pukes and it will cost them many votes.

28. Considering how Scaife laundered his money into secondary groups
. It was a conspiracy that worked against the Clinton's.. But, that does not mean it's good p/r to call it such. Sounds paranoid..
A better phrase would be special interests funding front organizations to do their dirty work. Work they know they can't do because the public disapproves of their status..
Democrats jobs is to reveal how they work and how their interests is against the public interest. And not sound paranoid.

5. With the DLC Hoedown in this Admin, the Repug's might just get away with it.
After all, we did not vote for the DLC backed candidate, but yet we are saddled with the same sordid bunch, selling out Americans as fast or faster than Bill Clinton did.

Obama has only himself to blame for doing the DLC Tango, flagrantly in front of the people that elected him.
If he gets Single Payer Healthcare done, he's still a single term president.

37. Obama backed away from the DLC, as far as to have his name removed from their website.
And I certainly didn't vote for Hillary, who supposedly lost.

Obama didn't support NAFTA in it's present form either.. He was going to end the War too, so he didn't really sound that DLC'ish to me. So what are you getting after Patch?

8. The DLC
Obama has betrayed us for the Corporations. He needs to get rid of Rahm Emanuel who is the resident DLC hammer. Obama is not fooling anyone.

If there is no "Robust" Public Option in the Health Care Bill, neither I, nor dozens of my friends that made 100s of phome calls and donated 100s of Dollars to get a Democrat majority for Obama and a 60 vote majority in the Senate, we will sit out 2010 and 2012.

WE ARE TAKING NO PRISONERS ON THIS ISSUE.

OBAMA ARE YOU LISTENING?

9. I have thought for a long time that the GOP was out to kill any and all bills.
It's too bad that our leadership sees the Public Option not as our fall back and non-negotiable position but instead sees it as the bargaining chip.

Because without a very big 100 million people plus, Medicare rate reimbursing, drug company negotiating, completely and easily accessible Public Option, the insurance industry is going to cut up and eat the American consumer for lunch.

There's no way the Dems can't know that.

...I know it might be hard to venture out of the bubble sometimes. But fact is, I occasionally learn more from who (moonie times in this case ie: newspaper owned by super-crazy-fucked-up-right-wing-billionaire-nazi-alien dude)is saying what at what time than I do from reading the same stuff repeated different ways from with my circle of friends (yes, that would be the Democratic Party).

I am sure the Germans were appalled at the sight and the comparisons they were trying to make between Obama and Hitler.

The Germans have a hard enough time dealing with that stigma and for them see that shit flaunted about here like it has been, makes them ill.

And he needs to really get personal on his attacks of the insurance gang. They are plain old crooks, who have been looting the country for years. No need for any compromises on this!
