Even though, I think that McGreevey has awful ethical problems, it should be noted that U.S. Attorney is one of the leading potential republicans that may challenge McGreevey in 2005.

The subpoenas came two days after federal agents raided the State Democratic Committee's Trenton office, copying documents and computer hard drives for information about Carteret businessman David D'Amiano's fund-raising activities and political contributions.
Three officials familiar with the investigation said the subpoena to Treasury's Division of Taxation sought information about the settlement of hundreds of thousands of dollars in state tax liens involving D'Amiano and his waste and recycling companies. Those officials said the subpoena to the governor's office sought records, correspondence and documents on other matters involving D'Amiano. The nature of those matters could not be learned last night.
A spokesman for Gov. James E. McGreevey, Micah Rasmussen, said last night, "We have absolutely no knowledge of any inquiries of any state offices or agencies."
