Mullen worried over public support for Afghan war

(AP) – 1 hour ago

WASHINGTON — The U.S. military's top uniformed officer is concerned about what he says is eroding public support for the war in Afghanistan.

Adm. Mike Mullen also says Afghanistan remains vulnerable to being taken over again by extremist forces.

The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff says President Barack Obama's new strategy for defeating the Taliban and al-Qaida is still a work in progress as more U.S. troops are put in place. Mullen wouldn't say whether more American forces troops will be needed.

The Obama administration is awaiting an assessment about the situation from the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan. That report is expected in about two weeks.

1. 8 years of perpetual war, including one we were lied into...
a decimated economy and overwhelming debt to finance these wars, total disregard for what is needed domestically with respect to our own people, a level of hypocrisy unrivaled in terms of use of mercenaries, torture, unfettered war profit.

And,General Mullen is surprised support is dropping? :eyes:

Afterall, he is the man now responsible for the war. All of the gold star mothers created since his inaugration are his.

5. Uh, what part of the public ever supported this?
Shows how out of touch these military people are. How could anything be considered progress in such a nothing war? And the elections, a complete joke to anyone with half a brain.

Now that the US has created the perfect conditions for enrolling new enemies by killing hundreds of thousands of innocent people, what about the democratic hatred that will abound around the world? The only leverage the US has had are the bribes of keeping the foreign money pipeline open. The source for that money is about to completely dry up. Then what? Will the US then become a totalitarian state to ward off all the enemies it's created? Or allow honest democracy to spread where the majority of the world will defeat the intrusive US government?

6. Backwards.....
I'm worried about Mullen's support of the war. And Obama's.

We can't afford an Empire anymore, anyhow.

13. And the worry will only become greater
as Afghanistan becomes an industrial meat grinder. If Obama wants to be a one term president, he should really ramp up that war and institute a draft, as if abandoning health care won't do it alone.

14. Right, we can't afford letting extremists gain power in Afghanistan.
Better to let our guy Karzai push their agenda.

18. Though we have heard of stupid haste in war,
cleverness has never been seen associated with long delays.
-Sun Tzu, the Art of War

I would say that eight years begins to qualify as a "long delay".
