'08 race worker held in damage to Colorado Democratic HQ
Source: Denver Post

One of two people suspected of shattering 11 windows Tuesday morning at the state Democratic Party headquarters has an arrest record and a history of helping a Democratic political candidate, public records show.

Police said that about 2:20 a.m., 24-year-old Maurice Schwenkler, now in custody, and an at-large accomplice took a hammer to the picture windows displaying posters touting President Barack Obama and his health care reform efforts.

Early Tuesday, Democratic Party chairwoman Pat Waak said the damage to her building in Denver's art district was a consequence of "an effort on the other side to stir up hate." She tempered her statement after Schwenkler's political history was revealed.

"What I've been saying is there is a lot of rhetoric out there from both sides of the spectrum," Waak said. "That's what's been disturbing to me. People are saying a lot of things not appropriate for civil discourse."

1. Tactics used by Karl Rove are inexcusable and not effective
no matter which side uses them.

4. Someone who lived close by and was paid to canvass doesn't make them a Democrat.

5. I don't understand the unrecs on this story.
It's important to find out who this is, regardless of party.

If this was a "not good enough Obama, whatever you do" person, or a disheartened cheerleader, or an agent provocateur, it would be good for the discourse to know it.

Edited on Wed Aug-26-09 08:22 AM by Kingofalldems
A new book out today. A compilation of thousands of posts on DU, a site that is supposed to be for Democrats only, but the author used it to trash Democrats incessantly. And got away with it. Buy it today!

7. Hmm . . .
Now, let's see. You point out flaws in the US, if you're an American, and it makes you patriotic because you don't critique to tear down, you're only critiquing to expose flaws so they can be corrected. You critique the one you love. Dissent is the highest form of patriotism, of course.

Well, maybe. So long as the right people are critiqued and dissent is against the right entities. Otherwise, it is embarrassing, and anybody pointing out flaws is a subhuman Neandertal bastard mouth-breather, and dissent must ruthlessly be squelched lest it impact party moral and solidarity. Or, even, provide bad press and affect the party's hold on power.

This guy might be a mercenary, for sale to the highest bidder, but what little's come to light says he's actually on the left, farther left than most in the Democratic Party. I've heard dissent here about triangulation, about the current policies not being progressive enough. The difference seems to be that Schenkler was pissed off at somebody or over something specific (true or not true, it doesn't much matter) *and* did something stupid in response. Or perhaps he was off his meds. Stay tuned for the all-important details in a piddling little story.

13. I don't think it's trashing democrats to point out when they screw up
are we supposed to pretend this guys a republican, even when he clearly isn't, just to make some people feel better?
