Spokesman for 85-Year-Old Former President Says Younger Bush Will Represent Family

(CBS/ AP) The elder President George Bush will not be attending Sen. Edward Kennedy's funeral.

A spokesman for Mr. Bush said Friday that he and his wife, Barbara, decided not to attend Kennedy's funeral after learning their son, former President George W. Bush, would attend.

Jim McGrath says the 85-year-old Mr. Bush feels his son's presence would "amply and well represent" the family Saturday.

The senior Bush's staff is unsure of how the word got out that he'd be at the funeral because, in the words of a source, "that was never the case." Asked if the senior Bush's health is OK, the source said, "rest assured all is well," reports CBS News White House correspondent Peter Maer. Following their long tradition, George and Barbara Bush are spending the summer at Kennebunkport, Maine.

40. The Bushes are only about 50 miles away from the funeral . . .
but noooo. . . they couldn't possibly make any effort to show a little respect to a great contemporary. They truly, deeply suck. When Bush I dies, there will be no people lining the streets because of what he has contributed to their lives. Of that, he is envious. Maybe it will make him re-evaluate his past deeds. . . Nah! He and Barbara, his "beautiful bride" (gag), will remain small-minded and classless for the rest of their days.

47. I heard on the CBS morning show today that a Bush spokesman
said Poppy is "too old" to go. Now, I realize at his age a person's health can change suddenly, but he did jump out of an airplane a few months ago & Jimmy Carter is the same age and traveling further.

I'm thinking it's a guilty conscience and, after his babbling at Ford's funeral, there's probably concern that he might completely crack at Ted's funeral and finally admit his guilt.

Maybe the Kennedy family made it clear he wasn't welcome. Too bad they couldn't tell Dimson to stay away as well.

91. Okay, I gave him too much credit
maybe it's not a guilty conscience as much as it is the fear of coming face to face with God before much more time passes and he has to explain himself.

People like the Bush family really make me hope there is divine justice or karma - whatever you want to call it.

The Bushes are so two-faced. They act so sweet and caring so long as the cameras are rolling.

Bush, Sr. is probably still mad at Kennedy for ridiculing him with his "Where Was George?" speech at the '88 Democratic convention.

Fuckface, his mutant spawn, really does "amply and well represent" their crowd. He's stupid, mean, uneducable, insensitive, irresponsible, a murderer, a liar, a cheat, a failure, and the worst President who was never legally elected.

I'd say he's probably the best that bunch of decency-challenged fuckers can produce, and as far as I'm concerned, the fewer Bushes anywhere near DC, the better. 51. One of Kennedy's stature certainly
Former presidents Ford & Nixon both attended Hubert Humphrey's funeral. (As well as Carter who was president at the time.)

Most of Congress flew in for that event and it was in January and the temperature was brutally (and stereotypically) cold.
I recall being so relieved that I was sure I was near death with influenza the day before HHH's funeral when as it gave me the only socially acceptable excuse not to go over to the State Capital with a bunch of DFLers and stand outside forever waiting for a chance to walk past his casket.

39. One of them is too ill to go, and since the reporters only asked about HW that leave Babs
otherwise the most plausible explanation is that it's an intentional slight.

75. It is disgusting for a former President (who is physically able) not to attend the funeral
of someone of Ted Kennedy's stature. He was in the Senate for 47 years. He NEVER stopped fighting for the underprivileged. He was a real hero.

It doesn't matter that we don't like GHWB, it the proper thing for him to do.

I'll bet you a million dollars if some fuck like Lindsey Graham or Orrin Hatch kicks, he'll be at that funeral.

The 2 memos are very interesting, one from the FBI and another from U.S. Government.

The OCTOPUS in Dallas: Poppy involved in JFK Assassination

George Herbert Walker Bush played some role in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The FBI says George H.W. Bush was in Dallas that terrible day.

Old Octafish hasn’t lost his marbles or downloaded something from Karl Rove’s Office of Disinformation. What I write is what the official government record shows.

FBI memos from within MINUTES of the assassination chronicle what “George H.W. Bush, President of Zapata Off-Shore Drilling Company” called the FBI to report “hearsay” that someone wanted to kill President Kennedy.

The problem: Bush reported his suspicions just minutes after JFK was dead. If he cared to stop the assassination, Bush would have reported the threat immediately. Why didn’t Bush say something sooner?

In the following FBI memo, by J Edgar Hoover and from a week after the assassination, states a “Mr. George Bush of the Central Intelligence Agency” reports that the anti-Castro (and largely anti-JFK) Cuban exile community in Miami said the assassination represents a “great loss” to the US and Latin America. The pro-Castro community, Bush apparently, says they “regret” the assassination.

ANYONE here mad that these murderous sons a bitches aren't showing up? I'd have asked H.W. not to come if I was a Kennedy. Same goes for Dim Son.

Shit, I wouldn't want Hatch or McCain their either - they're horrible senators and disgusting men.

100. My only problem with this
Is he makes it sound like they are just going through the motions and don't really respect, admire or love Teddy. I can just see Bush family getting together and saying something 'well it would look bad if we don't show so at least one of has to go. Hell junior we're on vacation so you go'. So they are going to fulfill their social obligation not to honor Teddy.
