Conservatives Warn of "Wellstone Effect" For Kennedy
Edited on Fri Aug-28-09 12:19 PM by FVZA_Colonel
Source: Politico

Key conservative voices have begun to charge in the day after Sen. Ted Kennedy’s death that Democrats are inappropriately politicizing the senator’s death, his memorial and his legacy.

Kennedy was that ultimate political creature, a “lion of the Senate,” and the last son of the archetypal American political family — his passing is inevitably political. In his final days, he focused on a narrow political goal, pleading with state leaders to change state law to posthumously fill his Senate seat with an interim appointee who would be a vote in favor of the health care legislation he championed.

So his allies on the left have made no secret of their hopes that his legacy will serve to bolster the uncertain health reform plan, with Sen. Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.) even suggesting the bill be named for Kennedy.

And that has some influential conservative voices sounding the alarm and calling foul.

I know it's too much to hope the media won't fall lock-step in with the Cons if someone even speaks well of healthcare reform at the funeral, but it annoys the hell out of me that their garbage could gain traction once more.

And fuck 'em. The Senator's life was dedicated to the political causes he championed. We will pick up the standard for him and carry on. He's ours, not theirs.

When it comes to healthcare, everyone know what Ted Kennedy wanted. Attempting to make his dream a reality is not politicizing his death, it's honoring his life. The Kennedy family knows what he wanted, so if the family isn't complaining (in fact, I bet they support it), then STFU!

26. Assholes. They don't want his life celebrated like Wellstone's was.
Screw them. A good rousing Irish Wake is in order. My Irish husband explained to me why Irish Wakes were basically good parties. The family and friends were celebrating that the deceased had gone to a better place where there would be no more hard times or starvation. There were also the stories about the deceased both funny and poignant told by friends and relatives. They were also memorialized about they had accomplished in their life even if it was a simple as being a good father or mother. I believe this would be the major ingredient of a Kennedy wake. The Morlock conservatives who lurk on the dark side just don't understand why joy would be in order instead of the pathetic, morose, weeping dirge that was Reagan's funeral.

A great democrats funeral.

Republicans are scared shitless!

They are worried because they won't have their usual media control & censorship.

And that all of Kennedy's fantastic progressive ideas LIKE HEALTH CARE will get air time, by his family, friends and fellow democrats!!

Republicans are so fucking frightened of the truth.

The more said about Kennedy's wonderful work, philosophy & accomplishments the better....

That's who the man, Edward M Kennedy was.

Fuck the republicans and their usual fear & scare tactics!!

remember Wellstone died before the election. They did not allow for early voters who already had voted for Wellstone. Those votes did not count, and the poor voters who voted early could not vote again. I believe, though, that Norm's early votes were counted.

Edited on Sat Aug-29-09 11:38 AM by newspeak
What I remember about Wellstone's funeral is how the corporate ass media went on and on about how some of those "liberal" observers were booing our great repukes. And, I mean on and on. The media did everything they could to downplay Wellstone. I love me some Paul Wellstone. He is the one Senator that I donated to every election and I am not even from his state. But, I knew that he actually cared for the American people and he listened and helped main street. When mine workers were concerned about *'s buddies in mining lowering safety standards, it is Wellstone who came to the rescue, because those politicians, I believe it was Pennsylvania, would not respond to those concerns.

And, St. Ronnie was made a saint after his death. Between books and a complicit media--they CREATED the perception of St. Ronnie. I mean, think about the state of the economy, Iran-Contra, BCCI-S&L debacle during St. Ronnie. In the book, "The Predators Ball," it shows how many corporations were gutted or raped under St. Ronnie--how many corporations went bankrupt (believe me, there was a lot) and how those greedy corrupt assholes used junkbonds to grab companies that were in the black and basically, strip them, leaving employees with no jobs. St. Ronnie is a myth created by the media and unregulated predatory capitalist thieves after his death.

And don't get me started on how slanted that article is, something in which Politico, AP, et al. seem to specialize--while yahoo news seems to specialize in collecting slanted articles from those sources.

Now, someone tell me when Democrats ever tried to limit how anyone else mourns their loved ones?

I guess Republicans have decided to specialize in mean-spirited, dishonest, and dumb, the Republican Trifecta. Shame on them and on anyone who takes them seriously.
