GOP senator signals fading hopes on health care
Source: AP

WASHINGTON – A leading GOP negotiator on health care struck a further blow to fading chances of a bipartisan compromise by saying Democratic proposals would restrict medical choices and make the country's "finances sicker without saving you money."

The criticism from Sen. Michael Enzi, R-Wyo., echoed that of many opponents of the Democratic plans under consideration in Congress. But Enzi's judgment was especially noteworthy because he is one of only three Republicans who have been willing to consider a bipartisan bill in the Senate.

In the Republicans' weekly radio and Internet address on Saturday, Enzi said any health care legislation must lower medical costs for Americans without increasing deficits and the national debt.

"The bills introduced by congressional Democrats fail to meet these standards," he said.

So I don't give a rat's ass what any GOP'er says. We in this country sent a full and clear message to Washington and IF they don't get this round, we'll send it again and again and again. We want a plan.

3. In other news
The mafia signaled that law enforcement efforts to stop the mafia had not met the mafia's standards and so would not get mafia support and ultimately fail.

Seriously, why does any GOP get any credibility on this issue? There are no GOP negotiaters on Health care. Only people assigned to stall the process until it comes to a halt and nothing gets done.

28. ENZI IS PROBABLY RIGHT
We have let the Republicans (admittedly) water this health
care bill down so much, that it is, by now, pathetic and no
benefit to Americans. Fuck the bi-partisanship fairy. It does
not exist. Medicare for all, just like in all of the other
industrialized countries, is our only hope. It WILL lower the
price of health care, to the amounts paid by other countries.
Why? Because we will write it that way. Big Pharma, hospitals,
doctors, all, will not be able to charge any more than these
services cost in other industrialized countries. Yes,
prescription prices will be negotiated, excellent care will be
given to all. Just because the DEFEATED REPUBLICANS think that
we should spend all of our money on weapons and killing
people. Does not mean a damned thing. They lost. Let's get on
with it. The NUH-clehar option that the Rethugs used when it
suited them, now suits us, damn it!

Why are Blue Dogs afraid of not getting votes from people who never did and never will vote for them?

Why does the MSM go to great lengths to ask Repugs what they think? It has not changed much since Bush was in the White House and Repugs ruled Congress. I wonder what the ratio of Conservative pundits/guests to Liberal pundits/guests is and how it's changed since the election. I'll bet there are a few more Dems on....but damn few more.

Why is everybody acting like the Repugs won???

57. The Blue Dogs' Dilemma
You've raised an excellent question, and being from the rural South, I will tell you it's because since progressives are in a minority down here, a Democrat has to win not only the liberal voters but also a significant piece of the conservative electorate. If conservatives overwhelmingly turn against them (which can happen very easily in rural, conservative areas), they cannot get elected.

30. They have. It's like the plan to privatize Social Security. Remember, we
were going to send every worker in America over to Wall Street and pay Wall Street billions to "compensate' Wall Street for the "burden" of taking on all that extra business?

Plan here is: relieve the insurance companies of all that pesky regulation that each state has had the gall to impose upon them without imposing federal regulation. While you are at it, send them 50 million new customers who either have to buy insurance or pay a penalty (probably pay the penalty to the insurance companies). Then let the insurance companies continue raising their prices on both their old and new customers. And if some of the 50 million can't pay, use taxpayer money to pay the insurance companies on their behalf.

That is my understanding of the things the Republicans have proposed.

32. NUCLEAR OPTION. It's the only sure way. Yes, it might have repercussions
when the Republicans regain the majoriy in the Senate. However, passing a good bill might forestall that. And, my sense is that the Republicans will use it the next time they have the majority, no matter what we do now, anyway.

This is the most important legislation since 1964. It's worth it. The Senate voting rules are dumb anyway, IMO.

21. My earlier post was uncalled for.
I just tend to get pretty pissy when I have a day like this. It's not a lot of fun when the mail consists of 4 more medical bills that we can't pay and I see people doing everything in their power to keep the status quo for the big insurance companies. I retract the use of the word hate in the earlier statement since I don't want to sink to the repubs level.
I never learned to slither like they do.

24. It's OK
You should tune in to listen to Malloy on the weeknights. He hates Republicans too, and as your post points out there are a lot of Americans with lots of reasons to hate them.

Secondly, we aren't going to win unless we get on the same playing field that they are on. If we continue to try to be understanding and continue to appease them ,there is no hope for any change for the better. If they can hate us viscerally for wanting to save the country, IMO it is healthy and productive for us to despise them for wanting to destroy it.

Good luck gettng out of your financial hole. Please don't feel like detesting sub-human filth like Enzi and your senior senator makes you a bad person. They are beneath contempt, and we will defeat them as long as we don't get too friendly with them

We don't need these co**suckers to pass a health bill. Don't want them. My message to them is, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out (watch, in ten years we'll have something that is akin to medicare for everyone and republicans will be shouting "keep your government hands off my national health service" at rallies while believing universal health care was a conservative idea). As to their "rage" and resentment if we pass a health bill without "bipartisan" support - so what. We've weathered worse in this country, like eight years of raygun and another eight with shit-for-brains as presidents. If we survived that, we can survive anything. Bring it on. Even a civil war would be preferable to tolerating all this rank evil and stupidity anymore.

56. Bipartisan or Effective?
The Democratic Party is a very diversified party and we don't have the sheepish mentality of the Republicans who agree with whatever their exalted leaders Limbaugh, Steele, and Whannity say.

I'd be more than happy to pass a bipartisan health care bill, however the Republicans have NO desire to reform health care. They're more concerned with giving tax breaks to their rich friends while the rest of us struggle harder and harder to make ends meet.

Health care reform WILL be passed by this Congress. Join us if you want to, otherwise get out of the way so you don't get run over.

....why aren't you worried more about your friends who bet against the housing market surviving while creating the loan conditions that crashed that market as they pocketed trillions?....Republicans are the real threat to our deficit and national debt not meaningful Healthcare Reform with a strong Public Option....
