Larry Frankel, Longtime ACLU Lobbyist In Pa., Dies
Source: AP

PHILADELPHIA (AP) ― Larry Frankel, a longtime lobbyist for the American Civil Liberties Union, is dead at age 54.

Frankel's body was discovered Friday in a park in Washington, where he had been working since last year as state legislative counsel.

Family members told The Philadelphia Inquirer that Frankel died of natural causes.

Frankel spent many years in the Pennsylvania Capitol as the organization's legislative director. Frankel, who lived in Philadelphia, was executive director of the ACLU of Pennsylvania from 1996 to 2001.

Gov. Ed Rendell called him "a pleasure to work with and a gentleman that I always wanted on my side."

2. I hope they got an independent autopsy.
Unfortunately, families traumatized by a death like this (Frankel was young) don't like to think about autopsies.

You think Cheney's death squads were limited to foreign lands? You think they've been demobilized? Cheney, Rumsfeld and others slaughtered hundreds of thousands of innocent people to steal their oil. They jailed and tortured thousands, for reasons I don't think we yet know. They were running death squads, through Blackwater, the CIA and probably entities we know not of. And they've never been more in need of them, to keep the lid on their many crimes.

It is not paranoid to be fearful of mass killers. Larry Frankel was in a position to know things. (For one thing--as someone at the thread that you disdain pointed out--the ACLU was investigating Blackwater.) It is quite natural to be suspicious of such a death. He was found face down in the water in Rock Creek Park! He was one of the most effective and enthusiastic of ACLU's attorneys. Sneer all you want. But the rest of us know that, as long as these criminals are on the loose, freely pontificating to the corpo/fascist press about how wonderful torture is, we need to be vigilant, suspicious, distrusting of authorities, wary of cover stories and quick to start putting facts together on suspicious deaths of major investigators of Bush Junta crimes!
