Since conviction, there's new interest in sheriff's story

By HECTOR CASTRO
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER

Saying it wants the lawman's side of the story out, the King County Sheriff's Office now confirms that Sheriff Dave Reichert will work on a book about the Green River serial killing investigations.

"It's a logical progression from what we've been doing all along," sheriff's Sgt. John Urquhart said.

Reichert once said he was not interested in writing a book about the case. In a 2002 interview with the King County Journal, the sheriff said, "This isn't about Dave Reichert. This is about the families. I am not doing any movies. I am not writing any book. I am about solving crimes."

1. Great.
Another Republican using human remains as a campaign platform.

Looks like the book is fortuitously timed for Reichert. Even though he said he wouldn't write it. :eyes:

2. What took Riechert so long to catch Ridgeway?
They had him for a suspect 20 years ago, is DNA forensic's that new?, I have a feeling he blew the case along time ago but is getting credit in solving it. Just like Chimpy and 9-11.

3. I don't think Reichart did that
If I remember the story right, the amount of DNA left on a victom, or left by Ridgeway on an envelope with the police, was so miniscule that it was impossible to test until quite recently and get definative results. They didn't want to blow their chances with the inferior technology of the late 80s and early 90s. Up until the positive DNA match, the evidence linking Ridgeway to the Green River killings was circumstantial.

I personally am glad they waited until the technology caught up with their hunch, rather than destroy their only clues in an inconclusive test.
