September 03, 2009

SAN JOSE, Calif - Silicon Valley billionaire Tom Siebel says he's recovering from broken ribs and legs after an elephant charged at him and a tour guide in the Serengeti a month ago.

The 55-year-old Siebel on Wednesday told the San Jose Mercury News that the animal plowed into the guide and then attacked him, breaking several ribs, goring him in the left leg and crushing the right leg.

The Siebel Systems software founder says the Aug. 1 attack occurred during a safari in Tanzania.

He says he and the guide were watching a group of elephants from about 200 yards away when one animal charged at them without warning.

16. OK, 200 yards away and their max sustained speed is about 16 mph according to the web.
That means it would take an elephant about 25 seconds to run that far. What was he doing all that time? Waiting until it's too late to do something? I know that's the Republican approach to most problems, so I guess that's probably what happened.

25. Max speed 6.8 m/sec.
Which equates to 408 meters/minute or about 200 yards in about 30 seconds.

Max speed 15 mph.

And if they can't sustain 25 mph on a 100 ft course, they can't sustain it over 200 yards.
But for the sake of argument, we'll pretend this particular super-athlete elephant actually did sprint 200 yards at 25 mph.
In that case, I guess your buddy Tom is 50% less stupid than I gave him credit for.

And if that doesn't work, scream them down or bring a gun to scare them off!

I'm sure you need the time off, since disagreeing with virtually every Democrat on virtually every topic on a Democratic message board probably is quite taxing.

'friendly discussion' is that you seem to be the one who needs to relax.

Here you are in a hilarious thread about a Republican being attacked by an elephant and instead of enjoying the fun, you derail the thread and change the subject.

Why not relax and picture it! A Repuke being attacked by an elephant. Even a Republican would have to admit, that's a riot!

33. All he'd have to be doing all that time...
...is be moving less than sixteen miles per hour (or twenty-five, as someone else responding to you suggests) in the same direction as the elephant's going.

I think having a top speed below either of those numbers is a reasonable expectation for most non-athletic humans.

The elephant, however, wasn't interested in killing something and stopping to eat it.

Tom Siebel mauled by elephant
On the morning of Aug. 1, Siebel, 56, said he and a guide were observing a group of elephants from 200 yards away. The Silicon Valley billionaire told the San Jose Mercury News that the elephant charged his guide and then turned on him, breaking his ribs, impaling his left leg and crushing his right leg.
