Of course, they'll skip bits like:

someone in the chain of command realizing these were young kids - and believed that kids had no business being there but couldn't do anything about it - so pull a few strings...

or

someone saw a clever mode of propoganda. Treat these kids well, give them an education, send them back to spread the word of good will and treatment at the hands of the Americans at Guantanamo.

I immediately thought of the latter situation. It could well be a combination of the two, but I'm willing to place odds on the decision-maker in this case being one who understands the political value of a situation.

Everything in the article may well be true, but I tend to be a bit skeptical of these reports:

- foreigners (U.S. soldiers speaking English) come to your country, arrest you, and imprison you for a year. Finally, they let you go.
- then more foreigners (U.K. journalists speaking English) look you up and ask how you liked the experience.

At this point you may be inclined to say whatever it is you think they want to hear, if you think it will make them go away.

For some reason, I don't think our government is telling us everything...
