90 arrested after Birmingham clashes
Source: CBC News

Authorities arrested 90 people after violence erupted between a group holding an anti-Islamist protest and counter-demonstrators in the central English city of Birmingham, police said Sunday.

The clashes erupted Saturday when a rally by the English Defence League ran into counter-demonstrators, including people calling themselves anti-fascists, and youths of South Asian descent, West Midlands police said.

About 200 people were involved in the clashes in downtown Birmingham, police said.

English Defence League? One of the BNP puppet organizations?

Couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch, especially considering their tendency to pick diverse parts of cities to march through.

I shall now listen to "Ghosts of Cable Street." You should too!

8. I know. That's how I grew up spelling it. I was referring
to their English in general. I didn't even notice the c in that word.

3. "EDL" is composed mostly...
...of various football 'firms' from the Midlands. They're technically deniable, so the BNP doesn't catch the flak.

10. Are they anti-Islamist, or anti-Muslim?
There is a difference. Many Muslims would even be anti-Islamist, because anti-Islamism is about opposing "Islamism," the ideology of Islamic theocracy.

12. Almost certainly
And you can bet that it's not just the "fundamentalist" Muslims they dislike either.

13. Indeed
Moderate Muslims, secular Muslims, Catholic Muslims... I imagine they're all the same in the eyes of groups like that.

(Figures that that makes them essentially identical to their view of the group they claim to oppose.)
