Source: BBC

Page last updated at 03:47 GMT, Monday, 14 September 2009 04:47 UK

An audio message purportedly by al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden has been released on an Islamist website.

The message, entitled "a statement to the American people", was about 10 minutes long and was accompanied by a still image of Bin Laden but no video.

In the message, a voice tells the US president that he is "powerless" to stop the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

<snip>

In the recording, the voice discusses what motivated the al-Qaeda network to launch the 11 September attacks. He explaining that they were, in part, fuelled by US support for Israel.

2. Even if it's legit (highly doubtful) so what? "His" messages thus far haven't
been harbingers of doom, just more anti-American-Israel rhetoric. He's impotent.

3. It's been mistranslated, he's actually upset over Kanye West being a douchebag at the MTV VMAs.

What a gay fish.

*Note: That's a South Park joke that, in the episode, everyone in the country got ... except Kanye West because he's a self-important douchebag (in real life too).

8. Not me, but I can see the need for a bump in the Polls before the G20 meeting.
Bin Ladin is probably right. Obama cannot stop the war in Afganistan, if he could, he would have by now, but the MIC demands payment and action.

I'm not so starstruck with Obama as others not to think he's just a quick to use Fear as a political tool as Bush did when the time is right.

Get people fired up and on edge for the big meeting next week in Pittsburgh.

4. Bin Laden Warns U.S. On Israel Ties: Website
Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden warned the American people over their government's close ties with Israel in an apparently new audio tape posted on an Islamist website on Monday.

"The time has come for you to liberate yourselves from fear and the ideological terrorism of neo-conservatives and the Israeli lobby," Bin Laden's latest tape said.

"The reason for our dispute with you is your support for your ally Israel, occupying our land in Palestine."

11. And that is designed to rally support for Israel.
I suspect the neocons, Dick Cheney and Rumsfeld to be the ones behind this. Where's Michael Ledeen these days? We are supposed to now express undying support for whatever Bin Forgotten is against, just to show him he has no influence over us. So transparent it's almost laughable.

Do they think we are children? And fwiw, I doubt very much that Obama had anything to do with this. It's just too stupid for him to be involved wit.

I don't know why the media even covers this garbage ~

Also Bin Laden has changed his tune, he gave a different main reason for 9/11 before.

It's time to track down whoever is making these tapes...

On edit: and why does the media even report this sh*t? It could be anyone making these tapes.

18. Motivations

This is incorrect. While there are a variety of primary reasons, and their perceived 'importance' has occasionally shifted amongst themselves, this has always been one of them. I clearly recall the Sheikh citing the zionist assault on Beirut city towers in 1982 as a direct influence on the method of the attack that was chosen, and the US support of this war machine as a key motivation for action.

20. In his first statement he cited
US troops on Saudi soil as the main reason. Bush capitulated a couple of few years later.

The reference to Beirut came in a later statement IIRC.
