Michael Moore shows latest documentary in Pittsburgh tonight

Pittsburgh will host the United States premiere of "Capitalism: A Love Story" tonight for union workers attending the AFL-CIO Convention, with filmmaker Michael Moore in attendance.

The documentary, about the economic crash and its roots on Wall Street, is due to open in Pittsburgh and nationwide Oct. 2.

Moore is planning to participate in a 6 p.m. press conference at the David L. Lawrence Center before leading a march of union workers down Penn Avenue to the Byham Theater, where the film is scheduled to be screened at 7.

Oscar-winner Moore is known for such controversial documentaries as "Roger & Me," "Bowling for Columbine" and "Sicko."

On his Web site, michaelmoore.com, the filmmaker describes "Capitalism: A Love Story" this way: "I made this movie as if it was going to be the last movie I was allowed to make. It's got it all -- lust, passion, romance and 14,000 jobs being eliminated every day."

Bet that will be a great audience for this film! On a side note I attended an Ed Schultz Town Hall last night in Pittsburgh. Love Big Eddie - did a great job though there should've been a much bigger audience. I think whomever organized dropped the ball and didn't let all those attending the convention about it.

BTW, I'm not attending the convention, but the Ed Schultz Town Hall was open to the public so I certainly wanted to see Big Eddie live. What we lacked in numbers we more than made up for in good old Pittsburgh Steeler/Penguin fan volume - we kept Big Eddie pumped!

Wish tonight's event was open to the public. Can't wait to see it.

1. PG has a sidebar with Michael Moore
TORONTO -- Bring 'em on, Michael Moore says.

But as the Oscar-winning filmmaker prepares to leave the Toronto International Film Festival and head to Pittsburgh for the American premiere of his documentary, "Capitalism: A Love Story," he said talk shows are having a thorny time trying to book him.

"Some of the shows are nervous about me coming on and saying these things and then having to cut to commercial. It's not that they don't want me on but in order to make it work for them, they've got to try and find an opposing voice, and they're having a very hard time finding people who will go on with me to defend that the richest 1 percent have more financial wealth than the bottom 95 percent combined.

"It's an indefensible position, so I'm not going to actually be allowed on certain shows because they can't find anybody to take the opposing viewpoint. I welcome the debate, and I hope they are able to find somebody who would like to defend the system."

Wearing one of his trademark ball caps, Moore talked about believing in democracy and a moral code "that says those who are the have-nots should not be punished because they have less than us. A hand should be extended to them, and there should be an equitable distribution of that pie."
