Strong Majority of Arkansans Support Public Option
Source: TPM

A new Research 2000 poll commissioned by Daily Kos has some interesting news for both Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-AR), and supporters of the public option.

Though Lincoln's favorable/unfavorable split is an unenviable 43 to 49, her potential opponents are still relatively unknown, and she maintains a considerable lead over all of them.

More interesting still is that respondents--600 likely voters--strongly favor "creating a government-administered health insurance option that anyone can purchase to compete with private insurance plans." The split on that score is 55 to 38. And remember, this is Arkansas, where Rush Limbaugh has a stronger approval rating than Barack Obama. Makes you think Lincoln could afford to be a bit more bullish on the public option than she has been of late.

Research 2000 for Daily Kos. 9/8-10. Likely voters. MoE 4% (No trend lines)
Do you favor or oppose creating a government-administered health insurance option that anyone can purchase to compete with private insurance plans?

Favor Oppose Not Sure
All 55 38 7
Dem 81 14 5
Rep 22 71 7
Ind 56 34 10

Someone should inform these two there's no need to obstruct a Democratic initiative this time around: a majority of their constituents support the public option.

2. but it's WalMao that pays the Senators' bills
the peons' votes are only the Senators' due, for being of the correct Party: any withholding of votes will result in immediate lawsuit to get what's rightfully owed to them

3. Unfortunately
they already know.

They are a lot of things, but dumb enough to not understand the "public option" has had the unwavering support of the people is not one of them. And they know that the support has been constant since polling on the subject began.

So what do we do with them now? Personally, I think we have to call them out on this exact point, no matter how much Obama and others want to tippy-toe around the elephant in the room.

4. Some DU'ers really need to make up their mind...
Out of posts about the South, 99% are about how dumb, ignorant, and worthless those people are (GREAT strategy to get them on our side, btw :sarcasm:), but now we're also saying that we should trust their opinion on health reform? I'm not saying they're wrong, obviously. But wondering how we can stereotype and condemn a whole class of people because of their origin, but then use their opinions for our benefit when it's politically convenient? Anyone care to enlighten me?

5. it could be read to suggest
Edited on Mon Sep-14-09 07:59 PM by Mr Generic Other
that if, even in a state like arkansas 55% of respondents polled were in favor of a public option, then other parts of the nation would show even stronger support for the option.
i am not trying to suggest anything negative about people from anywhere by this post. just attempting to answer the question.
i believe people in all parts of this country are able to figure out what's best for themselves.

6. Granted this is just anecdotal, but
when I was in the state earlier this year (admittedly it was in the "red" northwest part of the state), it seemed like the prevailing attitude that I came across, at least, was that "I have my own insurance, thank-you-very-much, and I don't want the government to get involved".
