Baucus Bill Passes CBO Test

Despite intense criticisms from both Republicans and Democrats, the Congressional Budget Office has released its preliminary score of the health care bill introduced today by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT) and finds it covers 94% of legal residents and reduces the deficit.

Importantly, the bill also reduces the budget deficit in future years.

Ezra Klein: "This good score is the product of the Finance Committee's sources of funding, not the relative stinginess of its subsidies. The Finance Committee could make the bill more generous, raise a bit more in revenues and still keep it deficit-improving over the next two decades. And it should."

That means that it will impoverish American families but not the government. That's not a solution. That's just complicating the problem. Baucus is an insurance company tool. I will be opposing Baucus' bill if it allows insurance companies to charge what they want and requires people to pay the bill. No. This bill will be hated by the American people. The CBO will be the only entity in America that likes it.

Anything that raises taxes on those of us that don't make tons of money is his number 1 line in the sand.... Try again Baucus >O< .

Yes, and in crease in gasoline taxes would hurt the poor the most.

But an increase in ciggie taxes? I'm not sure about that. If someone is addicted to ciggies (I used to be, so I know how that is...at one point, I would've cont'd to smoke even if I'd gotten lung cancer. But I digress.) If someone is addicted to ciggies, and the cigs get too costly, there ARE other avenues of getting nicotine. There's chewing tobacco (don't laugh....my grandma switched from cigs to chewing tobacco, and she stayed on that until she died at the ripe age of 88), and there's Nicorette (you can buy generic in that).

There are also generic cigs, now, too.

So....it's not the same thing as a gasoline tax or something that's absolutely necessary for millions of people.

Or will we finally have the moment of clarity we so desperately need right now that NEITHER Side is on OUR Side.

I dearly hope I am wrong about this, but I have a very dark feeling that a rude awakening is upon us.

Of course it passes a test because he's making us pay for insurance from insurance companies that care only about profit. I can't believe all this hard work to have a bill written by the insurance industry become the focus of so much attention.

The bill is too busy costing the TAXPAYERS more!

He expects to get $500 billion from Medicare. Now, how does he expect that to happen?

The only way I can see is to pay doctors and hospitals less for Medicare patients, which means they raise the prices on those of us who are not on Medicare. Or, they go out of business.

Maybe I'm missing something that someone can enlighten me on?
