Snowe, Other Moderates Signal Support of Baucus Bill
Source: WSJ

WASHINGTON -- Four moderate senators, including a key Republican, Thursday called Sen. Max Baucus's health-care legislation a "critical step forward," giving a possible boost to Democrats' efforts to cobble enough votes together for passage of the measure.

"While we each have outstanding concerns we wish to see addressed, Sen. Baucus has taken an important and critical step forward with this legislation," the four lawmakers said in a letter, adding that the bill "has the potential to gain broad bipartisan support."

The four who signed the letter are Democrats Ben Nelson of Nebraska and Clairs McCaskill of Missouri; independent Joe Lieberman of Connecticut; and Republican Olympia Snowe of Maine, who has been one of the Republicans negotiating the measure with Mr. Baucus on the Senate Finance Committee

The four also said in the letter that they would "continue to work together in the full Senate" on health-care legislation.

Mr. Baucus, a Montana Democrat who is head of the Finance Committee, for months tried to come to an agreement with Republicans on the committee on a health-care bill, but he introduced his bill Wednesday with no Republican support. He also has gotten a cool reception from some Senate Democrats and from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who Thursday questioned whether the proposal was affordable for the middle class and expressed concerns about its effect on the elderly.....

1. Posted already this is more DC humor

Snowe is not indicating that she will vote for it, but doesn't want to burn bridges with Baucus.

Grassley has already said that if he agreed 100% with everything in the bill he would still vote against it.

Baucus bill has met with widespread derision and is 50-50 to even get out of his committee.

6. The bill is DOA
So you get Snowe, and say you even get Collins. Meanwhile, you lose Rockefeller, Wyden, Finegold, Cantwell and Burris. And that's just the ones we know of.

9. So what happened to the other two Republicans who helped write this bill?
Even they won't support it. And Snowe is soft on supporting it. The gang of six are some of the most corrupt politicians in the Senate.

10. And they are from low-density population states which enrages me.
I'd feel terrible if Baucus got a flesh-eating bacteria.
