Pasco commission votes against women's clinic
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

PASCO, Wash. -- The Pasco Planning Commission recommends denial of a permit for a Planned Parenthood women's health clinic next to Mark Twain Elementary School.

Planning staff had recommended approving the permit for the clinic, which meets zoning rules.

About 30 opponents attended Thursday's meeting, some holding signs about their concerns the clinic might promote abortion next to a school.

The Tri-City Herald reports commissioners who voted against the permit were concerned about the potential disruption and threat to public safety from possible anti-abortion protests.

Planned Parenthood has 10 days to appeal the recommendation that goes to the city council.

Afraid of abortion protesters. Used to be, I'd think this was bullshit, but with the climate today, I'm concerned about the kids maybe catching shrapnel.

Abortion may be legal, but it sure is hard to get one in some places today.

1. Instead, they can send the pregnate people to the radio active dumps there
Pasco is part of the tri-cities area of eastern Washington that hosts the DOE atomic energy research and dump facility. Surprising as there is a much higher educated population there than average.

3. Good point
it amazes me how the people can just ignore the risk they expose themselves and their children to in that area.

2. Just another attempt to deny women health care and the right to
control their own bodies.
Still we don't want the anti-women's health care right-wing terrorist nut cases to go shooting some kids accidently...when all they really meant to do was murder a few doctors and maybe a few women and some innocent bystanders.
Sorry. I don't have a sarcasm sign :( You have to guess.

5. Government workers are conservative to the core
Pasco and the Tri Cities area is made up of government contractors and government employees who do not want any healthcare reform. These people are feeding off the government like maggots in a wound. I have never seen so many mcmansions concentrated in one area. They don't even know what a recession is.

6. were concerned about the potential disruption and threat ... from possible anti-abortion
protests.

This actually seems like a reasonable response and concern. It doesn't read to me that they are concerned with having a planned parenthood, but more that they are concerned about the crazies that attempt to interrupt normal daily activities with threats, protests, and violence.

I am altogether por-choice, but I wouldn't want one near a school in the current environments.
