Agency predicts health care bill will cost $829 billion
Source: CNN

A compromise health care proposal widely seen as having the best chance to win Democratic and Republican support would cost $829 billion over the next 10 years, nonpartisan budget analysts concluded Wednesday.

It also would reduce the federal deficit by more than $80 billion, according to a report from the Congressional Budget Office.

The review of the Senate Finance Committee's amended bill sets the stage for the next step in the politically charged debate over health care reform. Committee members have been waiting for the Budget Office's cost analysis before voting on their version of the bill.

The Finance Committee is the last of five congressional panels to consider health care legislation before debate begins in the full House and Senate.

I wonder what will happen to all the Republicans who were worshipping at the alter of the CBO when they attacked the House bills.

3. What? Where did you find that cost estimate?
How would this bill make insurance affordable. They've jacked the prices up so much in the last few years that many have become uninsured. I wish they would give us a price range of how much it would cost for the insurance that they will make everyone buy. How will they keep that price down. If the government could control that maybe but if they are forced to keep sick people then they will just jack up the cost for everyone else. This is a waste of time without a strong public option. Single payer is the best and would cost the least. Give these insurance people a job with the government run public option and tell the CEO's they have plenty to live off of for the rest of their lives!

6. The Baucus bill creates the illusion that money is being saved.
In fact, all it does is shift the ever increasing costs of health insurance from the government to the private sector.

At this time, emergency and other health care for the poor is paid out of tax revenue. This bill will not lower anyone's taxes. It will simply shift the burden for the care of the poor and underpaid lower middle class to various strata of the middle class. The Baucus bill is a trick. It does nothing to lower health care costs. It may help the federal budget. It will do nothing for the American economy on the whole.

7. You nailed it.
The single payer option is still the best plan for the American people and our economy.

12. You know the biggest freakin myth in USAmerika
is the myth that there's such a thing as a "middle class"...

Even in Michael Moore's new movie there's a lower class working family being kicked out of their home (and off of the family farm) and the woman said something to the effect that she "couldn't believe how hard it is for the 'middle class'".

There is barely a "middle class" any more...and what little there was is dwindling fast...
