Congress set to act to keep abuse photos hidden
Source: Associated Press

Congress is set to allow the Pentagon to keep new pictures of foreign detainees abused by their U.S. captors from the public, a move intended to end a legal fight over the photographs' release that has reached the Supreme Court.

Federal courts have so far rejected the government's arguments against the release of 21 color photographs showing prisoners in Afghanistan and Iraq being abused by Americans.

The Obama administration believes giving the imminent grant of authority over the release of such pictures to the defense secretary would short-circuit a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union under the Freedom of Information Act.

The White House is asking the justices to put off consideration of the case until after a vote on the measure in the House and Senate, as early as next week. The provision is part of a larger homeland security spending bill and would allow the defense secretary to withhold photographs relating to detainees by certifying their release would endanger soldiers or other government workers.

3. Cover up. The cover up is often as bad as the crime.
Thanks, Barack for all that change you promised us. George Bush and his criminal friends couldn't have hoped for a more cooperative accomplice to follow them into the White House.

Congrats, this now becomes YOUR CRIME as well.

You have a duty to the Constitution and the American people. Are you fulfilling that duty, or not? It sure doesn't seem like it. :(

6. IANAL "Ipso facto"
Posted this in another thread on this topic

I would suggest Congress look up the meaning of this word. The actions in question violated US laws and International Treaties, and by attempting to block the disclosure of the evidence of the crime and its prosecution, those voting in favor are guilty of a criminal conspiracy, and being an accessory after the fact. Does the RICO law apply to our elected officials?

A criminal conspiracy exists when two or more people agree to commit almost any unlawful act, then take some action toward its completion. The action taken need not itself be a crime, but it must indicate that those involved in the conspiracy knew of the plan and intended to break the law. One person may be charged with and convicted of both conspiracy and the underlying crime based on the same circumstances.

ACCESSORY AFTER THE FACT - Whoever, knowing that an offense has been committed, receives, relieves, comforts or assists the offender in order to hinder or prevent his apprehension, trial or punishment, is an accessory after the fact; one who knowing a felony to have been committed by another, receives, relieves, comforts, or assists the felon in order to hinder the felon's apprehension, trial, or punishment. U.S.C. 18

9. We need to send a letter to all members of Congress that
advises them of this.

Apparently the DOJ is still not giving proper legal advice to the leaders of our nation. Why would they, most are still bush appointees working to cover their asses and the bush admin.

14. Photos at Auschwitz and Buchenwald to be suppressed
The old phrase never again! Nothing good comes from suppressing atrocities. Might there be a reaction in the MidEast after the photos are published. Yes, but hiding them only enables this type of behavior in the future.

I wish Obama would stop enabling bad practices of the Bush and company. Something is seriously wrong here. The man makes a helluva speech, but his practice in action leaves a lot to be desired thus far.

I guess Barack Obama and Congress should get to work to suppress all of this stuff.
Afterall, it's better to just sweep this stuff under the rug now isn't it?

17. It is not so much that it would endanger soldiers(yes it would do that too)
It is more that it would 'endanger' a goodly chunk of the rpig party to voter retaliation and should result in cheney and (*) be tried for war crimes, likely that shit would roll down hill to the persecution department(there is no justice anymore) and the cia.
