Nelson (D-Ne) makes 'most powerful' list

By Joseph Morton

WASHINGTON – Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., has been named one of the “50 most powerful people in D.C.” by GQ magazine.

Introducing its list, the magazine notes that “a whole new power structure has emerged” in the nation's capital.

“So in order to navigate it, we polled journalists, congressmen, lobbyists, think tankers, and influence peddlers and came up with our own biennial list of the men and women who truly have clout – in a city where a lot of people think they do,” according to the magazine.

Because of ties, the list actually includes more than 50 people. White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel takes the top spot.

Nelson is tied for No. 22 with moderate GOP Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine.

3. Indeed
Nelson is almost the very definition of ConservaDem. The idea that certain blue dogs have set themselves up as gatekeepers and obstacles to actual reform getting done is infuriating.

9. I look at him more as head black mailer
maybe black mail is not the correct term but he is not going to sell his vote cheap..He wants something for his vote. He is not the slightest bit concerned about constituents. He wants that Power that being a lone holdout gives to him..

4. As a Nebraskan who fought hard for his re-election...
I'd feel a lot better if he wasn't so beholdin' to some groups.

He's not a bad man, but he can surely toss monkey wrenches around and mess things up. I am constantly calling his office and writing letters; there are times whn I wonder if he's just "dense", especially when it comes to taking care of citizens.

Met him on several occasions, short guy, and I think his hair is made out of some kind of polymer, he does listen...too bad he doesn't act...:(

8. That is always the issue...
I've always known these people were essentially bilking the system for what they can get; but they sell themselves off rather cheaply. Billions fly into the coffers of the corp's that buy off these clowns for a few grand...hell of a payback. Yep, their thieves, just not very good ones...;)
