Sources: Checketts to drop Limbaugh (from Rams bid)
Source: ESPN

Rush Limbaugh is expected to be dropped from a group bidding to buy the St. Louis Rams, according to three NFL sources.

Dave Checketts, chairman of the NHL's St. Louis Blues and the point man in the Limbaugh group attempting to buy the Rams, realizes he must remove the controversial conservative radio host from his potential role as a minority member in the group in order to get approval from other NFL owners, the sources said.

Three-quarters of the league's 32 owners would have to approve any sale to Limbaugh and his group. Earlier this week, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay predicted that Limbaugh's potential bid would be met by significant opposition. Several players have also voiced their displeasure with Limbaugh's potential ownership position, and NFL Players Association head DeMaurice Smith, who is black, urged players to speak out against Limbaugh's bid.

55. It's not the first time he's been rejected by the mainstream
either. He lost two television shows so I guess once he gets out of his ditto-head comfort zone, people just don't like him. All the money in the world won't change that. And he's whining like a baby over it.

And here I thought he was in favor of the free market. Looks like this was simply a business decision. The market has spoken so what's he whining about?

2. Video of early Rush laughing about slaves thrown to sharks.
Edited on Wed Oct-14-09 03:19 PM by RedCloud
It is still murder no matter what the number was and to keep his lily white audience in stitches over it, shameful even for racists. Nor does he caution them to stop guffawing until deep into the show and then pokes fun at it again:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eOMYeEnL90

His error is also presuming slavery was only around for 200 years. It was around since the 1500's and many Caribbean islands were used for storing them with no regard as to whether they could survive or would be forgotten or swept away in a hurricane. The death toll is not funny. They died in Africa resisting slavery. they died on the ships. They died trying to escape slavery from the USA down to Brazil. That number, Rush, sadly exceeds 100,000,000. Crunch your freaking numbers. 450 years of slavery can build up such catastrophic numbers. And there were also slavers going to the Asian islands looking for victims.

32. An unpleasant coincidence-I remember this because it was the 1st and last time I ever saw his show
Tuned in out of curiosity and I don't know if I was more disgusted at Limbaugh or at the reaction of the sickening racists in the audience. I think I lasted maybe about 10 minutes. How anyone with a functioning brain, and/or even a molecule of compassion and human decency can listen to, and admire and agree with this piece of (barely) human excrement, is beyond me.

4. Remember when Limbaugh was dropped as a spokesman for Florida orange juice?
Any time he tries to broaden his career beyond that little radio cubicle from which he spews his BS, public pressure shoots him down.

His short-lived TV show bombed, too. I remember watching it. Every time they panned the camera to show the audience, most of them looked like they threw a sports coat on someone who auditioned for a part on "Deliverance."

30. No no, he didn't. Sadly, I think Limbaugh's opinions are typical of sports owners.

And fans in St. Louis have low expectations. Checketts already owns the St. Louis Blues, and there have been no complaints. The Rams are desperate for a buyer, so is the desperate to have them bought.

26. No, it won't. Even though . . .

. . . sadly, I think his politics and racism probably fit right in with other NFL owners. The difference is he has been going on three hour talking jags about it on the airwaves for the last twenty years. That's why I think they'll find a way to give him some invisible partial ownership.

I really think that if you wanted to remake "Citizen Kane" it would be about Limbaugh.

25. The people ESPN hire for radio are idiots.
I was listening to them earlier today and the majority of people commenting on Douche Flim-flam, didn't get why the NFL owners may not let him be a part owner of the Rams. They kept mentioning political leanings and comparing him to Keith Olbermann and said El Douche-bo was as right wing as KO was radical left. Keith Olbermann...Radical Left. Why? Because he has a conscience? Anyway, I think the ESPN people forget that both guys worked for them at one point. Olbermann was co-host on that oft forgotten :sarcasm: program "Sports Center" and El-douchebo was on NFL Countdown. The biggest difference between the two is not political leaning. The biggest difference is that RUSH LIMBAUGH GOT FIRED FOR FOR SAYING SOME DUMB-ASS RACIST SHIT! That's right, Rush Limbaugh is a KNOWN racist piece of shit, and that's why the NFL won't have him. About two thirds of the athletes in the NFL are black guys. Do you really think it's a good idea to have a KNOWN racist own part of a team. I'm not saying some of the owners aren't racist or that they are, but I don't KNOW if any are, and the perception of not being racist is what is important to the owners and to the NFL. I don't get why ESPN didn't mention LIMBAUGH BEING DROPPED FOR BEING A RACIST IDIOT as a factor in any possible decision by the league. To them it was all about his political divisiveness.

I can't stand him either. He reminds me of Hannity with juuuust a hint of Nancy Grace. Cow-turd was the one that called Olbermann radical left, but I think it was Scott Van Pelt that was really dumb by not realizing why the NFL wouldn't want to be associated with Limpballs.

51. No.
They just use the most talented people they can find. I was just making a point that if one employs mostly minorities (not taking into account the office jobs which are mostly white people)then it might be a bad idea to be associated with a known racist if you want to keep a happy workforce. I should have explained further, but I got lazy. However, they still COULD be racist but be willing to use anyone to make money and win games...except Al Davis, because winning seems to be the furthest thing from his mind.

49. Limbaugh’s NFL Dream Sacked
Source: Maureen Miller - AC360° Writer

Limbaugh’s NFL Dream Sacked

Rush Limbaugh’s effort to buy a stake in the Saint Louis Rams is over. The controversial radio talk show host was supposed to be a limited partner in a group that wanted to buy the NFL team. Though, the head of that group now says Limbaugh will have no part in the bid.

“It has become clear that his involvement in our group has become a complication and a distraction to our intentions; endangering our bid to keep the team in Saint Louis, ” the head of the group Dave Checketts said in a statement tonight.

As we mentioned earlier this week on 360°, Limbaugh’s involvement had run into opposition within the NFL due to his past remarks about African-Americans in general and some black NFL players.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell expressed doubts yesterday when he said Limbaugh’s “divisive comments are not what the NFL is all about.” Also Tuesday, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay said he would vote against a bid that involved Limbaugh. Keep in mind: any bid needs three-quarters of existing owners to agree.
