9/11 Panel Won't Be Limited to Hour with Bush
9/11 panel won't be limited to hour with Bush
President will 'answer all the questions,' spokesman says
The Associated Press
Updated: 12:37 p.m. ET March 09, 2004WASHINGTON - President Bush will
privately "answer all the questions" raised by a federal commission
investigating the Sept. 11 attacks, the White House said Tuesday, dropping a one-hour limit on the president's testimony.

White House spokesman Scott McClellan backed away from previous statements chairman and vice chairman would be limited to one hour, saying, "The president will answer all the questions that they're going to ask."

The shift came on the heels of accusations by presumed Democratic
presidential nominee John Kerry that Bush was "stonewalling" investigations of the terrorist attacks and U.S. intelligence failures.

"It appears he doesn't want to let the facts get in the way of his
campaign," McClellan said of the Massachusetts senator.

and they should check his ears for ear pieces tool- and we should be advised--reporters should NOT be restricted or gagged in any way. Otherwise the whole thing will be perceived as a sham--another Bush staged extravaganza--the man whose credibility is currently nil will sink further down the slope into total uncredibility

11. About this 'unprecedented' crap...
Hey, wasn't 9/11 unprecedented too? Isn't the whole reason for the 9/11 commission that 9/11 was unprecedented and, you know, ought not happen ever again?

But I guess presidential dignity's just too important.

12. McClellan Never Committed Bush To Even One Second More Than One Hour.
There was nothing whatsoever in any of Scott McClellan's words, if one reads the transcript, that indicates that Bus is "dropping a one-hour limit".

McClellan's statement that ""The president will answer all the questions that they're going to ask," can mean that Bush will stick to his one-hour limit and agree to answer any other questions later either in writing or through surrogates.

Will he be under oath?

Will Condi Rice give testimony? Will she ever be under oath?

The answer to all of those is: no. It ain't gonna happen.

As Scalia says, "Quack, Quack."

13. I didn't read it this way
McClellan went on and on about how bush was providing ALL the information the panel wanted but it did not appear by reading the transcript that he backed away from the 1 hour limit or only by the top 2 panel members. I'll give the press credit for pursuing it led, of course, by Helen Thomas!

17. Not sure about that
Can he/will he pull a Reagan and say "I don't recall" when it's convenient? Or can he/will he pull a Poppy and say "I was out of the loop" when asked an uncomfortable question? Will they let him get away with that?

And I still don't understand why President Clinton had to give his testimony about private consensual sex acts in front of the entire nation, while the Chimp gets to give his testimony (unsworn?) behind closed doors. I want to see the monkey's face as he LIES. If there are national security issues, then they should at least show us as much as they can. WE DESERVE TO SEE THIS.

16. McClellan bactracked in the afternoon. One Hour Limit
Bush is limiting the interview to one hour. McClellan took back his statements of the morning with a frankly incomprehensible line -- something about unprecedented cooperation (repeated one hundred times) -- which apparently is a sufficient substitute for additional time. So one hour only. two panel members only. in private.

This should be a mantra every day until he gives in.

Today, for instance: "Bush can appear in public for "a five hour campaign fundraiser" but he will only give one hour, to two of six panel members, in private. Why? And yet he wants to campaign on his reaction to 9/11?

Tomorrow: Bush can appear for a photo op at "", but he will only give one hour, to two of the six panel members, in private. Why? And yet he thinks he is acting like a leader re: response to 9/11?

The next day: Bush can show up for a dinner and fund raiser, but he only has one hour, for two of the six panel members, in private? Why? What is he hiding from the American People?
