Paul Pelosi Buys A Football Team

Paul Pelosi, husband of Representative Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif), is now the owner of a professional football team. The famously publicity-shy spouse of the current Speaker of the House bought the California Redwoods, a San Francisco-based franchise in the upstart United Football League. Pelosi has admitted that he's not a big professional sports fan -- he prefers recreational sports befitting of a successful businessman and political spouse: golf, cycling, and tennis. Pelosi says he paid $12 million dollars for the team because he deemed it a bankable investment. As he told the Washington Post:

"This is a business, I look at it as a business. I'm in this because I think it is a very solid financial investment that is going to be very successful...I never wanted to own a sports team. It's that old saying: Never say never."

I was just about to post something just like that. I can hear it....."YOU SEE!!!! YOU SEE!!!!! LOOK AT WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO THIS COUNTRY!!! Making sure that only THEY can buy football teams and anybody who speaks out against the president is forbidden from buying their own football team!"

though I can't for the life of me figure out why the UFL would enter a market that already has one and a half pro football teams (sorry, Raiders :P ).

Until Al Davis finally gives up the ghost, the Raiders team is a joke.

I feel bad for the Raiders Nation when we give 'em a whipping day in and day out.

He's owned it for awhile. I noticed him there as the team owner when I happened across the UFL site in the last week or two.

HuffPo finally found out. And what better timing for the news, with the Fats Lowbrow thing and all.

I love that woman....probably more than my President and Rahm. :rofl:
