Axelrod: Fox News Is 'Not Really A News Organization'
Edited on Sun Oct-18-09 11:49 AM by kpete
Source: ABC News

Reporting and analysis from ABC News Chief Washington Correspondent and "This Week" Host George Stephanopoulos

WH Communications Director Anita Dunn declared a war with Fox News this week and this morning on
This Week, Axelrod reinforced their stance saying “(FOX) is really not news.”

I asked him if he's worried his strategy is fortifying his enemy?

“I’m not concerned, Mr. Murdoch has a talent for making money,” Axelrod said.

“The only argument that Anita was making is that they are not really a news organization, if you watch even its not even their commentators, but a lot of their news program. It’s really not news, it’s pushing a point of view and the bigger thing is that other news organizations like yours, ought not to treat them that way. And we’re not going to treat them that way, we’re going to appear on their shows and participate, but understanding that they represent a point of view.”

3. Where's all the cheering?
DU has been begging for Democrats to do this to Fox for years. You'd think there'd be massive celebrations all over the blogosphere.

I saw Axelrod make similar comments on CNN this morning. Calling it like it is. Murdoch is promoting a right wing agenda. Here is some more juicy facts about him:

13. It certainly is not
I have had several times, in the past year, I think, where I was at the gym at the 3:00 hour (Eastern) and could not stand Rick Sanchez on CNN, so decided, what the heck, only news, let's see what Fox is saying. At one time it was OK. They interviewed Senator Schumer and it was interesting.

But another time it was nothing but adding commentaries to whatever they were reporting. Like White House staffers removing a letter from the typewriters when Clinton left?

with his Matrix viewers, telling them to hide in their basements because, like the Jews, Obama is coming after all Faux viewers and he's going to make them sew an "F" on their clothes, before herding them to FEMA camps via black helicopters, where they'll be be eaten by the cannibal aliens (pause for tearing up) from Area 51 that Art Bell was always talking about.

18. I'm thrilled that the White House is calling BS on Faux News
I'm just a bit concerned/curious as to what they see as the overall long term strategy in this and what they see as the final outcome. If they play this wrong they'll be seen as whiners, but on the other hand it's likely that competing news agencies would relish the chance to show Faux News for what they are.

Overall I give this strategy a  and a :toast:, and to Faux News, Bill-o-the-Clown, and Glenn Beck I say :nopity:

20. Does anyone here have, or can you find a link to a poll on the Fox News guys
Edited on Sun Oct-18-09 03:37 PM by robo50
and how the majority of Americans think Fox is as fake as the balloon boy?

I'm willing to bet that over 60% of Americans think Fox is a screwed up biased arm of the Rethuglican propaganda, or even worse, propaganda for Sarah Palin, Joe the non-plumber, and all the numb skulls in Congress.

I'm sure you've all seen

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_IAN081P8I

The Rethuglicans have a REP for THAT!!!

Any way, my question: don't you all think Obama's folks know that they are winning when they put down Fox News? I am willing to bet they have this strategy all figured out, based upon polls.

21. Picking a fight: Obama vs Fox News
NEW YORK — President Barack Obama's communications director says it was Fox News Channel, not the White House, that picked a fight.

Yet it was Anita Dunn's words during a CNN interview last week, saying Fox is like "a wing of the Republican Party," that ignited one of the most unusual verbal volleys between a presidential administration and journalists since Vice President Spiro Agnew complained during the Nixon years about the "nattering nabobs of negativism."

Dunn's stance cheered many of the president's supporters who seethe over anti-Obama stories on Fox opinion shows, but has caused a backlash among some who say it exposed the administration as thin-skinned.

White House unhappiness had been building. The president himself said there is "one television station that is entirely devoted to attacking my administration." Fox's coverage of health care demonstrations over the summer, former administration official Van Jones and the community activists ACORN clearly knocked the administration off stride.

23. On one hand, the fraudsters ADMIT they're just opinion; yet, they hold themselves out as news.
"Fair and Balanced", no less.

Why aren't they just forced to confess fraud/misrepresentation or, at least charged with it?

"Fox News" is anything BUT "news". It should not be allowed to get away with such fraud.

Don't ANY laws apply to this corporation and it's ilk? If not, why not?

27. This is very smart
The WH is doing a terrific job being open about its views on Fox news. This can only have a positive effect on alerting sensible people who otherwise might see Fox as a credible news outlet, and inoculating them against Fox's political propaganda.

30. The worst of it is, Fox News deliberately misinforms the illiterate and most gullible
people in our country, actually "creating" their personal opinions due to the facts that (A) These folks do not have the skills with which to do reasonably valid research, and (B) They have a tendency to believe too much of what they watch on television is true.

Essentially, Fox deliberately misleads these unfortunates in order to create for them an "alternate reality", where most of what they "know" is based on bullshit told to them by dishonest, very well paid corporate sponsored RW talking heads.

It would be great if the WH and genuine journalists could keep this issue at the forefront of the media for awhile, because Fox News is actual fabricated bullshit, and can only squirm and wither under scrutiny and exposure.
