Shep Smith apologizes for ‘lack of balance’ in Fox News report

By David Edwards
Wednesday, October 28th, 2009 -- 7:14 am!

Fox News host Shepard Smith is known for demanding fairness at a network that often isn't balanced. On Tuesday, Smith went so far as to apologize for a report that only interviewed one of the three candidates in the New Jersey gubernatorial race. Fox News reporter Shannon Bream only spoke with the Republican candidate Chris Cristie.

After the interview, Bream told Smith that they had asked to interview the Democratic candidate, John Corzine. "We have in multiple requests, and when it comes in, we'll let you know."

"Wow. I didn't know that was about to happen. My apologies for the lack of balance there. If I'd had control it wouldn't have happened," lamented Smith.

1. How about lack of facts of any kind, balanced by total craziness
bordering on treason. The whole network should be shut down.

Fuck you, "Shep!"

3. Looks like Obama's pressure has had a bit of success.
BTW, watch the movie on HBO called "Out Rage." It mentions Shepherd Smith.

6. I know all the old time pundits are saying Obama is wrong
to "punch down". But, like so many other times, they're wrong here. The attacks on Fox as a news organization are working. The Fox fiends are always going to watch Fox. Fine. They can have that 2 million which is solidified into stone. They're not going to listen to anyone else. They're not going to read. They're not going to investigate. They want to soak up Fox and be done. Let'em. The Obama administration has an obligation to the country not to let Fox dictate what is news. This is the crux. Fox airs non-stories and then insists that the "liberal' media is ignoring real news. But, it isn't real news. It's Fox promoted sludge, ripped off of rightwing websites. Fox wants to crowd out what is important to our country with the nonsensical and inane: giving birthers credibility, over-reporting the Fox promoted teabag rallies, bringing on political scientists on global warming who are presented as equal in scientific background as environmental scientists. It's the presenting as "equal" that which is not equal.
Fox News is riddled with inaccuracies and propaganda. The Obama adminstration would not be serving the American people if they failed to point this out to us.

7. I agree, they need to be marginalized, and should have been long
ago. They may claim it doesn't bother them, but it does.

I remember in the 2004 election when O'Reilly had scheduled an interview with Kerry one night. Kerry decided he would no longer give interviews to Fox because of their unfair coverage. O'Reilly was clearly shocked and unlike his normal demeanor, he seemed lost as to what to do. But then, Terry McCauliffe called and filled in for Kerry. O'Reilly commented that he was fair, and that Democrats should not be afraid to come on his show. But you could see that they were worried about not having Dems on as that would marginalize them completely.

As you say, they have their audience of about 2,000,000 that's about it. Fox is like a sieve that catches the scum while the clear water gets through. And that's fine, scum are people too.

But Democrats should not accomodate them. Let them wallow in their tiny corner of the universe, alone with their tiny band of supporters.

If CNN is smart, they will start reporting real news, as they did when Ted Turner owned it. Then they may get back some of their previous audience. They lost a lot of veiwers when they tried to be Fox Lite, but still couldn't attract Fox's audience. It was a foolish thing to do.

10. Your Quote, "Fox is like a sieve that catches the scum"
That sums up the Putrid Sewer that masquerades as a News Channel.

14. Yeah, being Rupert Murdoch's piss bucket boy isn't nearly as glamorous as you might think
I think Mr. Smith, with whatever journalistic credibility he can scrape together, may just be hitting the bricks soon. Would CNN be considered a step up or a lateral transfer?
