Tea partiers hit Capitol
Source: Yahoo News/Politico

Thousands of Tea Party activists descended on Washington Thursday to protest the trillion dollar health care bill and government spending, holding signs protesting Barack Obama’s agenda while aiming chants of “you work for us” at the Capitol building.

The gathering was organized by local Tea Party groups around the country, who are arriving in Washington this morning by the busload. Conservative leaders in Congress, led by Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), have taken to the airwaves to encourage the activists to show up on the Capitol steps and demand meetings with members of Congress. The crowd grew to about 10,000 by noon. Bachmann has promised to lead some protesters to a press conference inside the Capitol to express their opposition to the health care bill in person to members of Congress.

House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) is expected to be a surprise guest speaker this afternoon. Celebrity conservatives Jon Voight and John Ratzenberger have also joined the protesters. They arrived as early as 8:30 a.m., by bus, car and plane — from Bluffton, S.C., Des Moines and Dorris, Calif. — to rally with conservative lawmakers and possibly roam the halls of Congress. Dozens of Republican lawmakers gathered shortly after noon to offer a prayer, say the Pledge of Allegiance and rally the crowd.

"Can you hear us now!" the protesters chanted from the foot of the Capitol, as they awaited the arrival of their heroine — Bachmann. The crowd also chanted “we want Michele!” "She's very brave," said Nancy Holmberg of Dorris. "Palin/Bachmann 2012," came a shout from the crowd. The crowd is also chanting Speaker Nancy Pelosi's name and demanding that she come address them on the steps of the Capitol.

From Talking Points Memo:

The Capitol Hill Tea Party crowd is now at roughly 8,000 people.

A TPM reader texts to us that the subway to the Capitol is clogged with protestors. Hundreds of people are still streaming in.

Late Update: NBC's Luke Russert says a Capitol policeman just gave a crowd estimate of 3,000-3,500.

1. So does Politico know the busses were provided by "Americans For Prosperity" and lots of organizing
by Dick Armey's Freedom Works?

15. Because "Americans For Prosperity" are nothing more than
folks all fired up by the likes of Beck and Bachman to do whatever it takes to disrupt government and try and topple President Obama's agenda. For the sole reason of wanting to always say NO to Obama.

These tea bagging cretins so soon forget that their leader over 8 years screwed the country so bad at all levels, including DOUBLING of the national debt, that it is an enormous job to fix all the mistakes of those world class repub losers. And one of those mistakes was to never fix the exploding health care industry.

So, we elected a man to lead us out of this morass, and we are sick and tired of seeing Bushbots, still all pissed off that they voted for an AWOL dipsh*t and lost all power in 2008, whining that they do not want health care reform, and ONLY because it is being put together by the Democratic Party, and for no other sound reasoning.....That's why this partisan bullsh*t is a problem.

I know the camera didn't pan around a full 360, but judging by what can be seen here it looks like a couple of hundred baggers turned up, and that's being generous.

9. 3,500 is what % of 304,050,734?
304,050,734 was the population of the US in July of '08. It's probably increased by now

That leaves 304,047,234+ people who are not yelling, and most likely want Health Care Reform.

So, oh you Teabagging democracy lovers....what does that mean? Can you say "a tiny minority"?

Congress works for the other 304,047,234 too so.....shut up. (you are also annoying that 304,047,234 majority)

25. Great, nutcases on parade again.
They better get back on their buses and clear out of here before rush hour or they'll be facing the wrath of DC commuters, who will stick their misspelled signs where the sun don't shine.

"Celebrity conservatives"? LOL! Washed up has-beens on their way to the matinee show in Atlantic City.

Someone really yelled out Palin/Bachmann 2012? LOL!!! Yeah, that's a good idea!

26. well,well,well
they managed to find 3,000 to 3,500 tea baggers out of 300 million Americans, i am not good at math but the percentage seems awfully low. If they want their numbers up i suggest Ms. Bachmann start personally tea bagging her adoring fans. And since they want a Palin/Bachmann 2012 She may as well bring her, so Michele doesn't get out of breath. See ladies you do have a special purpose.

34. I went to what was called the "Godless March" in 2002.
We had between 3,500 to 4,500 participants and got diddly shit TV coverage. Plus we were probably around 90% Progressives to Lefties with a tiny percentage of righties.

So why do 3,500 conservative assholes get so much????

Liberal media my ass.
