VF Jeanswear cutting more than 1,800 jobs

Greensboro-based VF Jeanswear plans to lay off more than 1,800 employees in August and September at its plants in Oklahoma and North Carolina.

In North Carolina, VF Jeanswear said it will lay off 366 workers in September when the company closes its sewing plant in Windsor, and another 526 employees in Wilson will lose their jobs when work is stopped at that plant.

VF Jeanswear makes Wrangler jeans.

jeans most commonly worn by working people. people who, because of layoffs, paycuts, and the slashing of their overtime pay, can no longer afford a new pair when the old ones wear out. the kids will be starting school soon, after all, and they need new shoes, and they have to bring their own toilet paper because the district can no longer afford to buy it.

but the economy is improving! bunnypants said so!

That seems to be the fad. At least Gephardt is calling for an international minimum wage.
