U.S. Senate Panel Accord on Memo Probe Collapses
http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=politicsNews&storyID=4552289

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee effort to devise a bipartisan request for federal prosecutors to probe a scandal in which Republican staffers improperly accessed sensitive Democratic computer memos collapsed in bitter disarray on Thursday night.

Democrats and some Republicans had wanted to refer the memo incident to the U.S. Justice Department, and several wanted a special prosecutor. Committee members attempted all day to find compromise language on how to proceed. The documents had involved President Bush's contentious judicial appointees.

With no Democrats present, committee Chairman Sen. Orrin Hatch, a Utah Republican, announced on Thursday evening he was not going to take any further action on the memo probe and would leave it up to the Senate sergeant-at-arms to decide what to do next.

The sergeant-at-arms, whose preliminary report into the documents was made public last week, told Reuters he needed to "digest what I just heard" before making a decision on whether to refer the matter to federal prosecutors. Earlier in the day, he said he thought a referral to the U.S. attorney's office was probably the right course of action.

Democrats were caught by surprise, thinking they had a few more minutes to cast votes on the Senate floor before returning to the Judiciary session.

8. Very expressive *LOL*,...
,...but, not entirely accurate *sigh*.

"Republicans" are not the "enemies", per se.

We really have to get beyond the divides that extremists have imposed upon all of us.

I am an individual, and a part of you all, and a patriot of this country. Being all that *LOL*,...I oblige my allegiance only to those who serve the fundamental interests of all humanity. Those fundamental interests include fairness (per a consistent application of the rules of law), equal opportunity (by requiring an economically-scaled financial in addition to personal contribution e.g. "sacrifice" towards living in a civil society), and an enforcement of the "golden rule" that we do unto others as we would have them do unto us.

16. Sperk--I know what you mean. Do Republicans read?
The CNN scroll contains most of the information I'm interested in. Sometimes I think there are two sets of news stories; the linear, for Democrats who read, and video for Republicans who don't.

4. They had better start asserting the constitutional balances of power,...
,...and bring all this crazy BS in a case before the only only bi-partisan branch of government left,...the Supremes. They had better do it IMMEDIATELY!!!

This shit must end, NOW!!!

All the executive orders watering the balances of power and usurping power must be squelched before it is too late.

9. crooked liars -- third time I've used that phrase this afternoon
Three articles, one afternoon, one apt response: crooked liars. It is amazing. Just today I learned that

(1) Bush suppressed info. on the known increase in medicare costs until after the bill was coerced through the house. crooked liar!
(2) Bush's republican staffers stole information (that I already knew), and Bush's lackeys in the the House are now attempting to suppress the investigation of the theft! crooked liars!
(3) Bush's first "attack" speech against Kerry was full of lies about Kerry's past voting record: crooked liar!

Unbelievable. One hour, three lies.

14. Seems to me Kerry's list of proof of lies and cheating is getting longer.
I wish he would publish the list that backs up his off-the-record statements. That would be a hoot!

18. More info at CNN link.

"We cannot get together," Hatch
said. Addressing Pickle, he said, "Do
whatever you think is right."

snip

After the committee blowup
Thursday night, six senators signed a
similar though more softly worded
request. They were Democrats
Durbin, Charles Schumer of New
York and Edward Kennedy of
Massachusetts and Republicans
Saxby Chambliss of Georgia, Mike
DeWine of Ohio, and Lindsey
Graham of South Carolina.

Lawyers representing one of the
former aides who took the
documents, Manuel Miranda,
released two lengthy documents
criticizing Pickle's report. They said
Miranda was a whistle-blower, not a
thief, taking advantage of a computer
security glitch to fulfill his duty to
further the president's agenda on the
judiciary.

Whistle-blower?!?

Whistle ass is more like it. Past the graveyard.
