Kerry Ad Says Bush 'Misleading America'
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=514&e=12&u=/ap/20040312/ap_on_el_pr/bush_ads_3

Democrat John Kerry (news - web sites), with far less money and advertising reach, countered President Bush (news - web sites)'s negative ad with one of his own Friday, accusing the president of "misleading America."

The ad, which will air for at least a week beginning Saturday in fewer states and fewer media markets than Bush's spots, rebuts the president's claim that Kerry has proposed a $900 billion tax increase. Kerry's ad asks: "Doesn't America deserve more from its president than misleading negative ads?"

Bush is entering his second week flooding most media markets in 18 competitive states in a multimillion-dollar advertising onslaught. He unveiled the first negative television ads of the general election campaign Thursday, calling Kerry "wrong on taxes" and "wrong on defense," characterizations that prompted the Democrat to respond.

The attacks on the air are unusual eight months from the Nov. 2 election and indicate just how ugly the campaign could get.

1. Very good ad, just watched it on Kerry's site!
It seems to me his ad comes across as reasoned and balanced whereas Bush's seems shrill and crass.

4. It's so sweet. Bush's record of leadership sucks
so all he can do is attack Kerry and try to deflect blame. We've had three plus years of war, attacks, deficits, joblessness, and increasingly ugly political rhetoric. He is no leader, and he knows it. Good for him.

5. I just sent Kerry a donation to help air these ads.
C'mon folks - cough up! This phase of the campaign is as important as the fall. If Bush successfuly paints Kerry with a pack of lies, it won't matter whether they are true or not. Remember, most people still think Saddam was responsible for 9-11.

12. This is why anybody who can should send at least a little money.
To Kerry or to MoveOn.org. It's important. We MUST get the word out any way we can, and anyWHERE we can.
EVERY ONE OF THESE "REEKS OF THE WEEK" should get an immediate response. EVERY ONE of them. Note my sig line if you wanna call somebody in Congress about it, TOLL FREE!

16. I contributed to both yesterday...
Can't afford much (especially these days) but I donated $20 to MoveOn and $50 to Kerry. Come on everyone, even if you only send $5. Look how much Dean garnered with just individual $5 and $10 dollar donations. It all adds up.

18. I kicked in
to both moveOn & Kerry yesterday during Atrios' "John Kerry Thursday" and I plan on contributing every week or two on Thursday until we unseat the unelected, insane war chimp.

before this Howard Dean was the only politician I ever donated money to and I'm in my 40's...

14. related article: Kerry hits at Bush credibility gap
(Moonie Times)

http://washingtontimes.com/upi-breaking/20040312-015152-1823r.htm

excerpt:

The 30-second spot accuses the president of "misleading America" in accusing Kerry of calling for a $900 billion tax increase. It says: "John Kerry has never called for a $900 billion tax increase" and adds that the Massachusetts senator "wants to cut taxes for the middle class."

The ad also hits at Bush for negative campaigning and asks, "Doesn't America deserve more from its president than misleading negative ads?"

Kerry campaign manager Mary Beth Cahill denied the ads amounted to negative campaigning.

"We are determined to keep this campaign about real issues facing Americans," she said. "But when the Bush campaign misrepresents John Kerry's record or his plans for the future, we will not hesitate to set the record straight."

15. AP keeps repeating Bush's soundbyte attacks on Kerry but doesn't say
how Kerry rebutted Bush's soundbyte attacks except to say that he "rebuts the president's claim".

17. The banality of corporate news
The attacks on the air are unusual eight months from the Nov. 2 election and indicate just how ugly the campaign could get.

This article's depiction of "ugliness" is the greatest disingenuousness, of course. The election is a terrific payday for the media which have a significant vested interest - you can almost hear the lip-smacking - in portraying a great struggle of words and ideas between the two candidates.

That's also one reason why the Dems and Repugs have moved closer and closer without our corporate media observing the fact. But I digress. ;-)
