Anti-Muslim graffiti found on French mosque

"Police say assailants have scrawled a Nazi slogan and hung pig feet on a mosque in southern France.

Interior Minister Brice Hortefeux has denounced the "vile and racist desecration" of the mosque in the town of Castres.



Police say the swastika in black paint and slogans including Hitler salute "Sieg Heil" in German, "France to the French" in French, and "White Power" in English were scrawled on the mosque.

Hortefeux said Sunday any person found responsible for the overnight desecration should be "severely punished."

1. were these the same french that were fighting for france for french during the war....
i am puzzled were they resistance or vichy.

2. The perpetrators
were probably descendants of members of the fascist French Milice, the paramilitary collaborators of Vichy who committed untold number of atrocities against Jews, resistance fighters, and other "enemies."

is a derogatory statement made by uber-nationalists and other descendants of Vichy minded people in France (the same as America for Americans) implying that France is only for ethnically French people and no one else, such as Muslims...Sherlock.

france pour francais is pretty hollow when your overlords are Nazis.

any french nationalist that paints a swastika is probably not a nationalist.

10. That doesn't matter to them.
They admire the Nazi model, even if it resulted in a French national defeat. These people weren't born then and weren't personally defeated and can therefore distinguish between a modern, more ideally "Nazi" France, and a France that in their view was probably defeated because it wasn't Nazi enough.

11. You'd be surprised.
many of these nationalists, especially the old Vichy ones were quite grateful to the Nazis for "freeing" their land of the "evils" of socialism, ethnic diversity, and what not during WWII. That's not to say that all nationalists were like that. Many traditionally conservative nationalists who abhorred the idea of Germany conquering and dividing their country found unlikely allies with the Communists, Social Democrats, and other more left leaning French who were resisting the Nazis and the collaborationist Vichy.

7. The Vichy goverment
was the french government in World War II that collaborated with the Nazi and helped with the shipping of Jews to concentration camps.

And this is France. Is it not probable that many, if not most of the members of the mosque are French as well, if that's what you are getting at?

There is widespread and well-documented anti-Muslim sentiment in France. Something like this should not be surprising.

19. France has not been doing a good job of
welcoming and assimilating new immigrants, particularly muslim ones. Might want to work on that.
