Padilla falls into a ‘legal black hole’
Padilla falls into ‘Bush's anus’

It was the luck of the draw. Some other spring morning, Donna Newman would have encountered a different client in a prison jumpsuit, someone accused of fraud or drug trafficking. Instead, arriving at the federal courthouse in downtown Manhattan in May 2002, she met Jose Padilla.

NEWMAN SERVES on a panel of private practice attorneys who occasionally take on indigent clients facing federal charges. She accepts new cases two days a year. “I believe in defending indigents,” she said. “You gotta give back.” At the time, though, she had no inkling how much she was about to give.
Padilla, arrested by the FBI at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport on May 8, had been flown east to appear before a grand jury as a material witness. The subject he supposedly had knowledge of — an al Qaeda plan to detonate a “dirty bomb” in the United States — sounded scarier than most. Another alarming sign was that every time Newman set her pen down on the courtroom table during that first appearance, federal marshals handed it back to her, evidently so that Padilla couldn’t seize it as a weapon.

This is really a sad story because I don't believe this guy did anything against the law.

1. Either charge him or send him home
This is bullshit. You don't do this to a US citizen. If we have the goods on him, then let's charge him and let's have a trial. If not, set him free.

Their handling of this case resembles the justice system in Saddam Hussein's Iraq.

2. USA Patriot act at its finest
My naeighbor is a republican die hard, I should report him about 5 days before elcetion time. Matter of fact I should report all know republicans in Nov '04. Lock them up, do my part to keep them from voting, give them a tast of the medicine they so badly crave. I think I will start with Darryl Issa, it was in his district that the WTC people came from.

3. Padilla is a warning to all Americans

Maybe you think it would never happen to white affluent people, and undeniably that would spark a lot more outrage than Padilla.

Also undeniable is that the US is now a country where one person can declare anybody an Enemy of the State, for any or no reason, and lock them up, forever.

The bush regime reserves the right to decree that constitutional protections are for regime loyalists.

Watch what you say and watch what you do.

Today Padilla, tomorrow, you or a family member.

5. um...that would be "illegal black hole"
Nacht und Nebel, Hitler's "Night and Fog" decree lives in the Bushreich.

This is a U.S. citizen, born in the United States, and he's been held for almost 18 months now in a Navy Brig somewhere. This is so far beyond wrong that it's indescribable.
