Mexico forces kill drug lord Beltran Leyva

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) – Mexican security forces killed drug lord Arturo Beltran Leyva, one of the most wanted traffickers in both Mexico and the United States, in a gunfight on Wednesday, the Navy said.

Beltran Leyva, the head of a cartel of the same name he ran with his four brothers, was killed in a luxury residential complex in the southern city of Cuernavaca.

"We confirm the death of Arturo Beltran Leyva. He was killed in a navy operation in Cuernavaca," said a navy captain who declined to be named.

The Navy said in a statement that four bodyguards had died together with Beltran Leyva, an ally turned foe of Mexico's No.1 most wanted man Joaquin "Shorty" Guzman.

They'll still have trouble breaking down the organization but hopefully there will be
a major decrease in crime.

prepare for more, so now rivals will kill each other trying to take over, and more and more civilians will get killed as a result, because they either won't take a bribe or took the wrong side when choosing whose bribe to take, this will set of a wave or two or three of brutal killings, retaliations and what not. thats just my opinion from down here on the border.

That's supposed to be fairly safe part of Mexico, with a lot of rich ex-pats living there.

CUERNAVACA, Mexico (Reuters) – Mexican security forces have shot dead top drug lord Arturo Beltran Leyva in the biggest strike yet for President Felipe Calderon's drug war but one which could trigger fresh bloodshed.

Beltran Leyva, a cartel chief dubbed "The Boss of Bosses," was felled in a spray of bullets on Wednesday night by elite navy troops at a luxury apartment complex in Cuernavaca, a fashionable weekend getaway city for Mexico City residents.

No I will not shed one tear for this guy... and rest in peace, the Marine that died in this operation, and I do hope the other two who were injured heal up.

I know this sounds barbaric but I hope the mexican military sprays every last one of these cartel assholes with bullets.

I was a medic with the Red Cross in Tijuana and got to "enjoy" the early shoot outs with the Arellano Felix...

And no, it is not barbaric. Many folks round these parts do not understand what they have done. Given we are starting to see the same early shoot outs in the US... people will get it. Unfortunately, they will get it.
