1. Bush will never agree to that
but Kerry is doing a great job of holding Bush's* feet to the fire. Now when Bush* refuses Kerry can point out that Bush* really is hiding from his record. If Bush* doesn't debate, he looks hypocritical. If he does debate, Kerry will evicerate him.

8. To anyone paying attention, Bush IS hypocritical
I'm all for making it more obvious, but More and more I feel the very definition of a * supporter is someone with very tolerance of or inability to see hypocrisy. Call it what you will, having a closed mind, having (blind) faith, or being hypocritcal - the bushites have it in spades.

I think they should debate while riding Segways, eating pretzels, and fighting off the Vietcong.

7. Bush probably won't do it, but by NOT doing it, Kerry will still gain
.
.
.

some more respect from the voters I think ..

From the Article:

"Bush and Kerry have exchanged negative ads in the past few days, with Bush criticizing Kerry by name for planning to raise taxes and threatening to weaken U.S. security and Kerry firing back at his "misleading" accusations.

Kerry challenged the Republican president to monthly debates on the "great issues" of the day, including the war on terrorism, the loss of U.S. jobs and the plight of Americans without health care.

"2004 can't be just another year of politics as usual," Kerry said in the text. "The challenges we face are just too grave and too great."

Quincy was the site of the sixth of seven Lincoln-Douglas debates in 1858, with 20,000 people - double the town's population -- gathering to hear the two men, who shared a river steamer to their next debate.

"Maybe George Bush and I won't travel on the same boat or the same airplane, but we can give this country a campaign that genuinely addresses our real issues and treats voters with respect," Kerry said"

................................................................

I saw these speeches by Kerry, and his challenges were pretty damm straight forward and honest I think.

I have no idea who might be the best running mate for Kerry, but that is Kerry's next most defining step in my mind . .

If he picks a running mate the voters can go for, he's got it made, if not . .

GAWWWWWD - please, not another 4 years of GeeDubya -

The world can't take it.

Wonder how that might work ?

and give the rebuttal to it.

Maybe he can even pull this off without it costing him any of his campaign money. Think any of the networks would go for it? Perhaps if it happened week after week, in city after city they might.

He should also accuse him of being "lazy":

"Why has he taken more vacations than any president in History- but cant take an hour to debate the important issues of our day?..."

Accuse him of being a "coward":

"Why is Bush AFRAID to face me man to man and debate the important issues..."

etc, etc..

all he's gotta do is ask! i mean come on! this is the presidency were talkin about here!

surely the media is not going to let old shrubya get away with all that money made ads!

besides, it gives them something to talk about! its a win win situation!

it's not like there's anything important going on in the senate that john has to be at anyway. bush is out trapsin makin all the adds so kerry better get with it if we're gonna win this thing!

kerry has got to get his record on the table! the media have been ignoring his record. they just want to talk about who talked to who and what they said. so john called the bushties liars and crooks. big deal! why don't they take a look at his record and see what he's done for us over the last gazillion years compared to bushes measley offer of the last three years as the head schizo in charge.

get the word out!

Not to worry, that's exactly what you'll see even if *hole does agree to a single 15-minute exchanging of words. Just for the record, I refuse to use the word "debate" and *hole in the same sentence. Hell, not even in the came country!

If Bush refuses to debate it will look like Bush is avoiding another battle again. I don't see how any good can come of this for Chimpy unless perhaps Karl Rove is the moderator at the debates.

15. Sounds like my idea! But without the no 'teleprompters' or 'electronic aid
ban.

Kerry should be hitting on aWol not having open news conferences. Instead of implying, Kerry should directly say Junior is not competent enough to respond to open questions/responses. Junior is only cable of reading scripts. And I, Kerry, pledge to hold a news conference every month.

Everyone knows Junior is an idiot. We should force into situations where he has to use his mind.

I think Kerry should declare he will NOT read prepared speeches and challenge Crap-for-Brains to do the same. It really impressed me to see Kerry, Edwards, Kucinich, Dean... talk to crowds without any prepared material. They might make a few mistakes but what do you think would happen to Junior in the same situaltions? Case closed.

16. time for the chicken suits
Edited on Sat Mar-13-04 11:53 AM by buycitgo
http://www.bigleftoutside.com/archives/000243.php
Like Father, like Son: Remember, in 1992, when George Bush Sr. was ducking debates with Bill Clinton, and some guy in a chicken suit started following him around the campaign trail? In every city and town where pop campaigned, the chicken suit man was the star of the show.

The "Chicken" meme was resurrected by a quote from "White House advisor Dr. Harlan Ullman," according to the Mirror, who said, regarding the cancelled Houses of Lords and Commons visit, the Bush administration "would have loved to do it because it would have been a great photo-opportunity... But they were fearful it would to turn into a spectacle with Labour backbenchers walking out."

In the past, world leaders like Clinton, Mandela, and Mitterand have subjected themselves to questions from Lords and Commons.

Of course, those guys were all legitimately elected.

more

At the start of negotiations for the 1992 candidate debates, President George Bush did not as quickly agree to the proposal by the "Commission on Presidential Debates" as did then-Governor Bill Clinton. Instead, he waited and debated his next move - which eventually was to negotiate the terms of the debate.

In the meantime, Clinton's campaign attacked Bush's slow agreement. It even went so far as Clinton volunteers dressing in feathered clothing and appearing at Bush rallies to wave "Chicken George" signs for the press.

At this point, a CBS News/New York Times poll showed that two out of three voters felt as though Bush were "ducking" the debates (Plissner 149).

There most likely will be 2 or 3 debates, as there always is.

25. This was rebuffed earlier in the week….
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/business/national/8151663.htm

A senior Bush campaign official, speaking on condition of anonymity, rebuffed Kerry's offer yesterday, saying the president would stick to the "tried and true" format of "a series of debates in the fall."

Personally, I’d be shocked if the twit agrees to more than one debate in the fall….and the one that he does do, will be total fluff, with all questions being submitted a week prior….

45. Bush is too busy
campaigning. This may be the first President you have to chase BACK into the Rose Garden. We have several ongoing upheavals in suspicious circumstances of various nations and Bush is consumed with politics.

But not debating. he can't time off avoiding work, even if that work involves the important project of destroying America.

47. Kerrrys reply: But Bush, you took more vacations than any Prez. in history
but NOW you dont have time to face the important issues?

Okay- I'll make a deal with you- lets have the debates at the Crawford ranch, so that way it can be one more of your many "working vacations"...

If I were Kerry- I would not let this go...
