Toyota's 1st in safety recalls for 1st time
Source: Detroit Free Press

WASHINGTON -- In a first, Toyota led the U.S. auto industry in recalled vehicles this year, thanks to its largest safety-related problem since it began selling vehicles in the United States.

The Japanese automaker has struggled with the fallout from the recall of 4.3 million Toyota and Lexus models for unintended acceleration linked to fatal crashes.

...

According to a Free Press analysis of federal data, automakers recalled 15.2 million vehicles in 2009, a sharp jump from 8.6 million in 2008.

ever since they started building them here it's been nothing but problems.

The Japanese are never afraid to buy Monday or Friday-made cars.

11. Perhaps it's -possible- that it was a mistake for Toyota to stake its reputation on the cheap labor
of non-union labor in the South? Mississippi isn't a place with much educational infrastructure.

17. Not possible. These are not overpaid lazy American workers that are protected by a union
Edited on Wed Dec-30-09 04:41 PM by notadmblnd
:sarcasm:

This is cheap uneducated, unprotected, southern labor. I don't understand what you're bitching about. If the employees were that bad, why didn't Toyota just fire them?

7. I wonder if this thread will be ignored like most negative Toyota posts
This is not shocking. Toyota is just like every other auto company in the world. Every company has some issues.

8. One thing: this isn't a "negative Toyota post"--just the unvarnished truth.
"Every company has some issues."

Right, but Toyota just happens to have the most issues related to recalls due to serious safety problems of any car on the US market right now. That's significant.

12. The bias against North American brands around here is
sickening. You would think there would be some support for our workers around here.
I do not expect this post to get much attention.
Toyota is not the best car in the world.

19. I guess the answer to the question I posted in my first comment
"I wonder if this thread will be ignored like most negative Toyota posts"

is yes. It's typical. Negative news for Toyota and positive news for GM gets ignored by most posters.

20. Maybe we're just not that into you.
You seem to be personally affronted that, contra your popcorn smilie, you didn't start the hot thread you expected.

I clicked on this thread for info on the topic. I don't feel obligated to respond, esp. when the OP demands it, but FYI:

I bought my first Toyota Celica GT in 1976, and had Toyota Celica GTs right up until 1998, when I would've bought another Toyota Celica GT if I could've found another used one. They were all three of them excellent cars (all stylish too, in answer to the Mazda fanboy here). I don't remember any safety issues with Toyotas up until now. By my count that's 33 years worth of spotless reputation.

I don't know what your grudge is with Toyota, and I don't care. But if I can manage to remember your name I will remember never to post again on a topic you introduce, because apparently you think people are supposed to have the same level of interest that you do in everything and are supposed to prove it to you by posting on your thread. What a silly person you must be.

21. I didn't start the thread
Get your facts straight before you make yourself look foolish again.

My problem isn't with Toyota, it's with uninformed DUers who bash GM and praise Toyota despite its obvious quality issues.

"I clicked on this thread for info on the topic. I don't feel obligated to respond,"

Nobody is obligated to respond but it gets annoying that all the Toyota lovers, who I watched bash GM with glee as they prayed for the company to go under, disappear when there's negative news for Toyota.

"I don't remember any safety issues with Toyotas up until now. By my count that's 33 years worth of spotless reputation."

Of course you don't. Toyota lovers worship the company and put up blinders to any information contrary to their opinion.

"But if I can manage to remember your name I will remember never to post again on a topic you introduce"

Please do. Clearly you don't have much to add to any conversation anyway. You'll save me and everyone else who does read the thread time from reading your meaningless comments.
