Former Haitian president sends condolences
Source: Reuters

JOHANNESBURG, Jan 13 (Reuters) - Former Haiti President Jean Bertrand Aristide, exiled in South Africa, sent his condolences on Wednesday to his countrymen after a devastating earthquake hit the Caribbean nation.

"My wife and I stand with the people of our country and mourn the death and destruction that has befallen Haiti," Aristide said in a statement issued on his behalf by the South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation.

"It is a tragedy that defies expression; a tragedy that compels all people to the highest levels of human compassion and solidarity," the statement said.

After decades of dictatorship, Aristide, a former Roman Catholic priest, became the country's first elected president in 1990 but was ousted by the military a few months later. In 2000, he again assumed the presidency but was forced into exile in South Africa four years later amid growing violence in his country.

1. This Reuters article is a living lie about Aristedes - fourth paragraph.
Edited on Wed Jan-13-10 09:24 AM by peacetalksforall
He was removed by air from his country by the United States. The U.S. and France conducted the coup. They brought in people to eliminate certain people. It was planned. The World Bank knew it was going to happen. We conducted a coup against democracy. Aristede was elected. It is still not clear why they did it. He was way too left - he was for the people - he was against poverty.

Don't click on the link - there are only the four paragraphs that the OP posted. The last sentence is a blatant lie. Don't give Reuters the clicks.

Thanks for posting.

2. We know people from Haiti.....they confirm (as fact) that Aristide raped the

country (so what else is new?).....and that each of his children has a 40 million dollar bank account. Imagine that!
