Oregon Gay Weddings On Hold

(Portland, Oregon) Portland has called a 'time out' in issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples. The Multnomah County marriage office will be closed this morning while commissions decide their next move.

On Friday the Oregon Attorney General issued a non binding legal opinion saying that state law preventing same-sex marriage likely violates the state constitution. But, Hardy Myers called on the country to stop issuing the licenses until the issue can be decided in court. (story)

This morning county chair Diane Linn is huddled with lawyers to go over Myers' opinion.

Linn said the marriage office will reopen once a decision has been made. She said he expected that would be around noon PT. The office usually opens at 8 a.m.
